Hi Everyone. I'm Steve from Mentoring USA. Mentoring USA, New York City’s largest site based program is launching a pilot Adoption Mentoring program in Harlem. This program is for adopted children where the mentors were themselves adopted. It is essential for adopted people (specifically children) to be able to express themselves, be heard and ask questions.
Not only would there be a great potential for a friendship but there would also be an organic understanding from one adoptee to another. This small group of young people is on their way out of foster care to adoptive homes and is in need of some additional support. We are now looking to match the children with adopted adults as we pilot the program. The commitment is one hour a week for one academic school year. Training is provided.
