Any of the Dave Pelzer books are WONDERFUL....my personal favorite is "Help Yourself". That is a book i will carry with me to help remind me what my true intentions in life should be...i recommend this book to anyone wanting to better themselves, in any way shape or form, but mostly to those suffering from childhood disaster!
Dave is a WONDERFUL author and spends a lot of time dealing with child abuse, and informing schools about the topic. Reading his books has REALLY changed my life. Jessica |

A word to those easily nauseated... you may want to skip a Child Called It... it gave me nightmares. The others were great, though.

I love Dave Pelzer. I recommend reading them in the order they were written. Meaning reading A Man Named Dave then the Teen Book...
I dont think A Child Called it is nauseating. Glad it wasnt around when I was younger. My mom would take tips from it. Evil Woman. Dave Pelzer is my favorite survival story. It was Jennings Michael Burch before. |

Dave Pelzer books were great. I think it gives an excellent perspective of what it means to be the "target" child.

I can't remember, did his "mom" ever apologiize or admit what she did? She's dead now isn't she?

For some reason I don't think she ever did. I think that she tried to make amends in her own terms but I don't think that she ever truly apologized to him.

I agree about A Child Called It. An excellent book, but I'm still haunted by some of the things they talked about in there. Really awful and not for the faint of heart.

I'm so glad I read this post!!! I went out and purchased all of Dave Pelzer's books. I started reading as soon as I walked throught the door but after finishing A Boy Called It I was SO emotionally drained and depressed I refused to read the other books. I'm going to start on them tonight!!

I had the honor of seeing Dave Pelzer speak at a conference, but he talked a lot about his personal experiences which, as you said, is not for the faint of heart, so I don't think I'd do it again! LOL!

Not for the faint at heart
I agree that Dave Pelzer's books are not for the faint at heart - they speak in pretty graphic detail everything that poor man went through as a child. I think he's quite an amazing man to come from that sort of childhood into the man he is today. His books after A Child Called It aren't quite as graphic. I encourage anyone that hasn't read the rest of them to please do so. Colleen ![]()
