Hello Raleigh People!
Let's see if I end up being the only one on this forum
My husband and I are in Raleigh, and while we aren't adopting domestically we would still love to meet others from the area who are either adopting or have adopted. I'd introduce myself but I think my signiture tells you whatever you want to know! Okay, now, we need a second post. -Megan

Hey, I'm in Garner!!! We have 7 internationally adopted children. 6 from Russia and one from Serbia! So glad to meet others from this area. Our family is planning a local get together sooner or later. (once we fix our moonbounce). A good old fashioned cookout. I'll post here once we decide on a date. Most likely in March. So glad to hear from others here in the area. i know there are a ton of us in this area.
Take care,

Hey y'all! Yay, there ARE people here!!!
readyfor1- Sure, you can count I LOVE Raleigh! My parents and I moved here when I was 13, from Maine, and I hated it at first. Too hot, too busy, not anywhere near the ocean, very little snow, etc, not to mention that everyone talked funny (and insulted me by saying that I talked funny!). I didn't like Raleigh up until I left to go to UNC, and then I couldn't wait to get back. DH had also lived in Raleigh and loved it, so as soon as he graduated we came back home, and I don't think we could have made a better choice. I seriously adore this town! So go on ahead and move here, hehe ![]() Abdulina - Wow, 7? That's wonderful! I'm sure you're loving your nice full house Can I ask, did you adopt the pairs as sibling groups or no? Not that it matters any, just interested in the adoption of more than one at once. We'd wanted to do that ourselves but because of our ages our social worker would only approve us for one child, age 0-2, not a sibling pair age 0-4 like we'd requested. We still plan on adopting multiples later on, though, but I guess we'll see how we feel about that once we know what it's like to have a little guy in the house.butter7- Welcome to the area! Where did you move from? One of the things I love about this area is that there's a lot of resources and groups for adoption. MANY people in our area have adopted or are adopting, so it's a very pro-adoption area, with tons of support. Have you chosen where you're going to adopt from? Domestic or international I mean Okay, now that I've written too much, it's off to email the secretary of state's office again about state certification for a notarized power of attorney for our Ethiopian dossier. *sigh* I'm so new to this, it all still seems like so much! -Megan

I am originally from Washington State, then moved to Florida for a few years and met my DH...he lived in Green Bay, WI. Anyway, we both hated it there (he's from a small town in Michigan originally) so we ended up here!!! We love it here!
Its great to know that our area is so pro-adoption, as you mentioned. We too, are starting to notice that very same thing. You asked what form of adoption we're currently persuing...domestic infant. I keep reading and researching, trying to educate myself so we know exactly what to expect, which is how I found this forum! Okay, time to get some shut eye! |

Wow, been awhile now hasn't it?
![]() DH and I are now APPROVED and WAITING as of 3-19-07!!!! We're looking at a 1-6 month wait for a single child age 0-2 from Ethiopia. We've already met up with a group of people from the area who've adopted or are adopting from Ethiopia, and we're quite pleased about it. Our child will grow up knowing other Ethiopian children who've been adopted by US families, and we get to have a group of people who've gone through it before helping us out and giving us advice. I cannot wait to see a picture of our child! It's only been a week, but the wait is already killing me! -Megan

Hi everyone!
I am brand new to these forums and my husband and I are just investigating the possibility of adoption. I am 26 and my hubby is 28 and we live here in Raleigh, NC. We have been trying for a biological child for 3 years, unsuccessfully. Last August we decided to stop actively trying to get pregnant and started thinking about other options. I was actually adopted as an infant from Georgia to two loving parents who raised me here in Raleigh. My husband immigrated from Elk, Poland when he was 14. They moved to NY and moved here to Raleigh his senior year. So we are now seriously considering adopting from Poland because I think it would be beneficial for our future adopted children to have the adoption connection with me and the Polish connection with my husband. I would really like to adopt two brothers at one time. We are looking for some information on what we need to get started. We are celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary next month and we want to make sure that we are getting everything in order to help the process go smoothly. So now my questions begin: where in the world do you start? Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated and I wish everyone the best of luck with all their dreams! Thanks. Alyssa |

Hi Alyssa,
I'm new here also, I live in Clayton. I'm new to adoption too. I faciliate RESOLVE meetings in Raleigh, I've been going through infertility for eight years. Actually I have just went through a failed adoption. It was a private adoption that fell on our laps, so I have been devastated the last few days. I am going to an Adoption seminar on Saturday in Raleigh, if you would like the info, please email me at terrylpell@yahoo.com Terry |

Terry,
I am so sorry to hear about the failed adoption. Before my parents adopted me, they had a failed adoption where the birthmother changed her mind at the last minute. My mom said that was the most devastating time of her life, but that she got through and ended up getting me. Hopefully something will work out for you in the future. I appreciate the offer for information, but we will actually be out of town. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law just had their first child and we are going to meet him! It's exciting, but difficult - we feel like we have so much to offer as parents, but there is no quick actions. Hang in there! Alyssa |

Hi, we're from Raleigh. My husband and I are just beginning the adoption process. We just sent in our agency application today, so I guess everything is now officially rolling.
We are looking to adopt a 2-4 year old from Moldova. It is great to hear that this area is so pro-adoption. Thanks for starting this thread! |
