Lamictal
My 4 yr old daughter's psychiatrist is wanting to try Lamictal. We've not had good luck with Seroquel, Risperdal, Tegretol but have had so-so success with Abilify but she is not stable. The Dr's feel she has bi-polar though we have no history from her birth parents. Anyone have success with Lamictal?

Ummm... I've researched a lot on Lamictal due to my youngest's prenatal history. What I've read would not make me overly anxious to give it to a child. At the same time, if you've tried many others without success, maybe this is the best choice.

I would try one of the better-known off-label mood stabilizers on her (Depakote, Tegretol, Trileptal) before jumping to Lamictal... it can be hard to get the dose right on Lamictal without causing some nasty side-effects...
The above meds have been tested over the years as antiseizure meds, and are considered relatively safe for off-label use (of course, your mileage may vary). When my daughter was 4, she started on Trileptal and it worked wonderfully for her for years. She eventually transitioned to Lithium which has also worked wonderfully for her (she's 10 now). FYI, if you use Trileptal, dosage is weight-based... make sure your doc knows that... lots of kids get too little and then quit when it doesn't work.... Audrey
