I am new to the forum and am in need of some help.

Im 31 yrs old and 5 months ago found out about my adoption. My adopted family says they know very little, says there is no records and half of my family refuses to talk about the adoption and says its in the past and should stay there. I was told that they kept it secret in order to protect me. My adoptive parents divorced when I was very young and my dad is the one who has given me most of my information. My mother is unable to talk about it due to medical problems.

I know it was a private adoption and handled by a lawyer who worked with my dad. The lawyer is now deceased. The files were sold but I have not been unable to locate them. I did contact two of the lawyers family members but they had little information or would not speak with me. I contacted the lawyers secretary from the time but she said she doesnt recall the specifics. One thing I do know about this lawyer is adoptions was not his specialty. The secretary told me that he handled a handful of adoption cases. She did recall my adoptive dad and them handeling the case.

I have contacted the state and they just tell me to get a lawyer. I asked for non ID info and was again told to get a lawyer. I contacted 4 lawyers who have pretty much either not responded or told me they couldnt help. I live out of state so going to a legal office in Ms would be difficult.

I have such a wide range of emotions about this that I cant even begin to write them out.

Can anyone offer me some advice on what I should do? Where to go for the non ID info, how to petition the courts to open my files?

I have spent countless days making phone calls, playing phone tag, searching the internet, sending emails, asking relatives questions and all I am getting is large brick walls.
