Let's lighten up a little - who's your wonky crush?
This came up election night, when I was watching the returns with a few girlfriends (all husbands/partners were out of town or otherwise occupied) and the conversation devolved to who our wonky crush was. Each of us had a crush on some policy wonk. It was usually some kind of political commentator, but we decided it could be a public official as well, or even a public intellectual who was on the news a lot.
Mine is David Brooks, NY Times and PBS commentator - yes I know I'm a Democrat and he's a moderate Republican, but what can I say? He's really smart and I guess I find intelligent and temperate moderation very exciting. He always says stuff that I find insightful and to the point. And while David Brooks is not exactly a hotty, my husband is also a smart balding nerdy guy with glasses so apparently that's my type. (For a while my big TV crush was Alton Brown.)Other wonky crushes revealed among my friends that night included Anderson Cooper and George Stephanopoulos. And someone where my husband works has a wonk crush on Joe Biden. So come share - don't be shy! Whoever you are, left right or center, male or female - who's your wonky crush? I KNOW you all follow politics. . .

I like men of the darker-skin type. Barack Obama is definitely my "wonky crush". I love a man who carries himself with confidence and the warmth he displays with his wife, the way he holds her and is always in touch with her -- that's a HUGE turn-on for me.

Josie, I actually had a dream a couple of weeks ago that I was married to Obama and we were on our way to the inauguration. . .

I have had a huge thing for Anderson for quite some time...went to a red carpet event where he was last year and it was delightful. Matthew McConaghey and Lance Armstrong showed up at the after party and my girlfriends were all swooning, but I was still stuck on Anderson
(Notice how our love is so strong last names aren't necessary....)HOWEVER, if you ask my roommate, he will tell you that I"m in love with Rachel Maddow And I think he might just be onto something....I always yell at him if he talks over her or get angry if he changes the channel when she's on. He said, "I think you like her!" I said, "Well of course I like her!" and he said, "No, I think you like her like her."Oh. Maybe just a little ![]()

OK, on that recommendation I had to look him up on-line. Cute! And tall! (My husband is 6'5", so I like 'em tall. . .) And despite having straight proclivities, I could totally see having a crush on Rachel Maddow. . .
