Karyn,

This is hysterical! I sent it to my Mom over the weekend. My mother who is a non-straight-ticket republican has been struggling with which candidate in this election to cast her ballot for. She has great respect for McCain and great hope for Obama. When Palin was announced she was over the top! However, with the tanking economy and other factors, she's really taken her time on casting her ballot this year. After she listened to Palin get punk'd she called and said, "Well, that decided it for me. For the first time in my life I'm voting for a Democratic president."

You know, I have to say, this pisses me off. I'm no Palin fan - in fact I dislike most things about her and the campaign she's running - but I think this was disrespectful and idiotic. No, I don't think she's particularly smart, but assuming at face value that someone on the phone is who they say they are - especially when you should be able to count on your advisors to check on this stuff - is really not such a big deal. As an Obama supporter, I wish this hadn't have happened - I think it cheapens the political process. JMHO.

If you listened to the entire thing it made her camp look unproffesional. No questioning when the phone rang. No questioning when the "conversation" was going south...nothing.

I think it was idiodic as well, but to my mother it showed that she is not ready to be in the position she's in.

Add up all of Joe Biden's career spanning antics and you have at least a an hour "punk'd". This particular election would give you the equal 6 mintues alone. Let's be balanced with the spin on the stupid acts of the candidates {thumbs up}.

I found it kind of sad. I went along with the joke, feeling more and more sorry for her, until the part about "Nailin' Palin". That was the last straw for me. Even if she wasn't a candidate, a little respect for her is not too much to ask for.

See, I sort of think when you put yourself out there to run as President or VP you sort of open yourself up to these kinds of things. I don't think it cheapens it at all - it sort of lightens up the seriousness of all the other stuff (IMO of course). Obama, Palin, Huckaby (spelling ,sorry? - who was REALLY funny) and McCain have all appeared on SNL in sketches...

I can't even tell you how many times our PM has been spoofed on This Hour Has 22 Minutes...I guess we just like that kind of humour (-:

I felt sorry for her as well, but it was like hearing a train wreck. I want to be clear that I DON'T like this type of "joke". Something like this happening where it goes on and on without her having a clue and her staff...unbelievable.

But you said upthread, that it was hysterical.

I just want to be clear, you think it was hysterical but you don't like these kinds of jokes? I don't understand...

Seriously!

I think that it is absolutely hysterical. I don't feel bad for her at all. She could be our next vice president. Possibly our next president if nature takes its natural course and McCain passes on. If you are feeling sorry for her, thats so sad for the great USA!!! Because in situations where she should be quick witted and think on her toes, our entire NATION will get punk'd.

Let me clarify...What was hysterical to me was the way she was GUSHING at another head of state. I went back and listened to it again. How would any leader of any country respect someone in power who gushes? No way.

The jokes were stupid and I don't like those types of "jokes". However, she was beyond naive for not "getting" she was being punk'd.

Does that help?

No, it doesn't help.

If you thought it was funny, then you liked the joke.

And FWIW, *I* don't find it at all funny how everyone thinks it's so hysterical to laugh and make fun of this woman. It's like everyone takes great joy and pleasure in seeing her fail and I think that's sad.

This is silly. I can go into several threads posted right after she was announced where I questioned posters who were posting less than factual items about her. Reading those posts the average reader would think that I was a huge supporter.

However, I find it scary that someone who could be a vice president elect of this country in just a matter of hours would be as gushing and naive as she was during that phone call.

I admit that she hasn't been "handled" very well by the McCain campaign and I've felt sorry for her many times. Politics is a tough business.

As for the "punk" or "joke" I don't find that funny...I guess it's sort of a nuanced point of view...

And in case some don't know, nuance is NOT a place in France. (my attempt at a very lame joke)

Exclamation

I VOTED!!! YAY!! Line wasn't terrible at 6:30 am with polls opening at 7

For anyone who thinks this tape is funny, just for fun, worth sharing, etc.....Just be ever so thankful you were afforded the right to hear it. That right now you're able to hear for yourself, openly think about it, talk about it and make up your own mind based on living breathing facts. How wonderful for Paige's mom that she had that information to makeup her informed mind as an American. How sad that things have not been the same in regards to other critical tapes....if this funny ha ha joke tape swayed one voter, just one it becomes a critical piece of history.

There are several other "critical" tapes in true existence that deserving voters either heard too late in this election OR will not be granted the right to hear/view at all. It's an American Crock-o-Carp that this occured.

*namely Obama's January 2008 radio interview regarding the bankrupting of coal in all of the swing states. How convinient that one came out Sunday night, only 2 days before the election. Only 2 stations gave it any kind of talk worth mentioning, considering its HUGE implications in my own and other areas.

*The LA Times video tape witheld from public view. As if to say outloud we as a nation should just sit back, shut up, and be thrilled with one reporters interpretation on this event and not at all have the facts in living color (????) As if to blatantly say out loud why should you have the IRL facts on something so critical, something that could sway a vote....just as this ha ha ha tape on SP did. If it wasn't critical we would have seen it. The truth is never hidden. The truth is ALWAYS proclaimed, most times with passion. Only lies are hidden away in the shadows.

People were not afforded their American right in these cases above. Paiges mom was becuase of this tape...another mom in Ohio, PA or anyother state was not granted the same. Just one vote.....

I too think it was not nice....

Why did her camp fall for this? Why was she so egotistical in thinking the French President wanted to talk to her and not McCain? Bidens camp should be smarter to the ways, since he has experience. Aww....experience there is a concept! She did however open herself up to this type of retoric..she did go on SNL after all. Thank the higher powers it is almost over. Now having said all that...Why did Palin getting punked.. become such a NEWS WORTHY topic?....But when some 20 yr old Republican volunteer, whom Palin called right away, got away with carving a B into her cheek with a nail file, go by with out not one apology to Obama and the Democrats???? Seems to me getting punked is far less news worthy, at least LESS news worthy than Race-Baiting and division! I feel this was unnecessary and childish...but Palin AND McCain brush off Race-Baiting as if it were nothing. Where are there sincere priorities???? JMHO...I already cast my ballot...GO VOTE!
