My wife and I are currently in the process. We accepted a referral on a brother and sister. He is currently 2 years and 9 months old, and she is 1 year and 4 months old. It looks like we'll be heading over in the middle of December.

We are working on our Polish Dossier. We are hoping to adopt one to two girls in the age range of 7-11. I'm also curious to hear about others' experiences with Polish adoptions. There doesn't seem to be very many people out there adopting from Poland.

Talking Almost there...

We've finally submitted our dossier to Poland earlier this month, after six months of paperwork. Our dossier is being translated now, then we wait for the approval. We'll be one step closer.

Just curious, what gender and age range are you hoping to adopt?

Also, how long did your adoption worker say what the average wait is for a referall?

Congratualtions,
It is good to know I will not be alone, in the waiting for a referral process. My husband and I would like to adopt a sibling group, ages 3-7, boys or girls,, we are willing to consider an adoption of a single child as well. Our Facilitator told us for a sibling group of 3 or more that waiting period is 6 to 15 months. Younger children say under 5 have a longer wait period of 1 to 1 and a half years,, however the wating statistics vary, our facilitator has told us it is all depenading on Poland.. We sent our completed Dossier to Poland In Sept 05,, we have not heard anything as of yet, I search the International forums daily,, To hear peoples success stories and also to look at the beautiful children that have found their forever familes, I pray one day, that I show off my children also.

We're working with Saint Mary International Adoption in Charlotte, NC. We're asking for two children, either gender, both under the age of four. I didn't realize the translation process takes as long as it does, about 2 months. Our agency said a referral can be expected 1-6 months after that.

I'm having trouble responding to private messages. Every time I try, it kicks me off. So, I'm not trying to be rude by not responding, but I've tried dozens of times, but it won't let me. Sorry to anyone who has sent me one...maybe it'll work later. I'll keep trying.

I was also wondering, how often,, if ever, does your angencies stay in contact with you??, is it like once a week, or month, or is it yourselves that keep in contact with them? Should I send an email to my Facilitator, asking if there is any progress on my adoption, or what shud I ask,, or shud I ask anything. Help need advice.

I don't know what the standard is but I would think that a good agency would keep you up to date periodically. I have been in close contact with my agency during the dossier prepration because I had a lot of questions. I would assume that once the dossier is submitted then contact would be less often since you are then in the waiting process. I personally would like to hear from them every other week but no less than once a month.

I'd like to hear other's experience on this subject.

After we accepted our referral, sometimes there were weeks where we didn't have any contact with our agency. It's kind of awkward calling them after a week or two and asking "Did you hear anything?". If they did hear something, they would have called. I'm trying to block all that frustration out of my mind. We leave in 9 days. My wife is starting to get nervous now. We can't wait.

We received a couple of photos w/our referral and basic medical information. Once we accepted the referral we spoke to the Polish facilitator who had seen the girls and got more information from her.

When we went over, our agency social worker told us what to bring for every person involved. At our first meeting with the "baby house" staff, I felt like Santa Claus. The gifts weren't anything fancy, just nice stationery, pen/pencil sets, etc.

Good luck! PM me if you need more information.
