Jeans
We were in Wroclaw, Krakow, Lodz, Poznan, and Warsaw. In all areas I was almost the only one not wearing jeans.
I would not consider or worry about jeans being too 'country' at all. What I would consider, though, is that they are heavy in a suitcase, and will take three days to air dry after being washed. |

We took some very dark jeans and other slacks and didn't feel out of place. But - lastpaige has a very good point about washing and suit case weight. We had to do a lot of hand washing and air drying and they do take a long time even when we were there in the heat of the summer.

My impression is that in Polish big cities, people usually are a little dressier than the U.S. average. All depends on age, class, and all that stuff. I usually dress up a bit more in Poland than I do in the U.S. I do not wear jeans at all (consider them uncomfortable - or they just do not go with my Eastern European figure
). The point about jeans being heavy and not drying quickly is great though. I find that the best way to go is packing up a few comfortable black or dark brown pants (stretchy kind), a few button up shirts, a few sweaters (I like the fitting cable pattern ones), and a button up sweater, a few t-shirts, a nice skirt (I like black), a couple of pairs of comfortable shoes (but not tennis shoes, well maybe for a man it is OK) because you will likely do a fair bit of walking. Most of my clothes do not need ironing (I hate ironing). I also take a sweatshirt (I like to hooded kind), a couple of sweatpants or athletic pants to use around the apartment/hotel. I always like to have something comfortable to throw on if I am staying at a hotel where breakfast is included to wear to the dining room. I usually bring one nice coat and one more sporty comfortable kind. Add to that socks, hats, etc. etc. I personally keep my wardrobe pretty standard and simple. This set always has worked (I used to travel for work to places ranging from Lebanon, Armenia, and Cuba to Switzerland, France)Last edited by Kama : 12-20-2007 at 10:04 PM. |
