back in Chicago

Hi everyone! I'm sorry I haven't written since I went to Poland, but my Internet access there was very limited. Plus I was upset with the Polish ways of doing things. My documents from central adoption office, which were supposed to be in court when I arrived, were not there of course. It took me a week to get them, and only after I drove to Warsaw to pick them up. (I am doing an independent adoption, so I can't rely on other people.) My judge then gave me the pre-adoption court date on December 6th. Initially she wanted to give me at least 5 weeks of bonding time without including those 2 weeks I already had with my children. She then settled for 3 weeks. (I am secretly back in Chicago to finish my work this semester.) I have my final adoption court date set for December 27th, so I am flying back on Christmas day to make it. The children are wonderful! We bonded right away. I can't wait to bring them home. And they have been ready to go with me after a couple of days together. The nuns from the orphanage are great and helping me a lot! The court appearance itself was easy and quick. I hope the second one will be the same. I'll write more when I'm back again since I don't think I'll have a better Internet access this time.
Happy holidays everyone!
I hope I am successful with including the picture of my kids.

Taia, oh, the children are beautiful, so sweet! Thanks for writing. By the way, I sympathize with you totally as far as "the Polish way of doing things." Well, it is just that the process involves a lot of paperwork, we fortunately had an attorney and a wonderful legal guardian who did a lot of that. Hang in there. Merry Christmas and good luck! Please send updates.

Gorgeous!

Hmm . . . not sure it's a Polish way of doing things. I have a few friends working as foster parents here in the U.S. that have been and continue to be in foster hell because of the CPS way of doing things.

Just think of it as paying the dues!

Jacqueline-
I am sure there is something that can be called "American incompetence," or incompetence in general, but believe me "Polish incompetence" has some special features .

Taia,

I was just looking at your timeline, and it struck me that your independent adoption seems quicker from start to expected finish than adoption of many of my friends who are working with agencies! I would guess that it was also less expensive. And your referral quickly as well. Hmmm...

Taia,
Your kids are adorable! What a fantastic gift you are giving and receiving this Christmas!! I think most that have gone through the process have had at least one exasperating moment (some of us more than one - many many more!!). We experienced the height of incompetence - highlights included a judge whose bosses called a complete idiot who planed on keeping us in Poland indefinitely and an ancient a court appointed interpreter who barely spoke english and told us the judge told us we could take the kids to Russia during visitation (yes that is a true story and basically we didn't know what was actually being said or translated for the judge in the court room ). BUT, we also experienced very competent, dedicated and caring individuals who are really trying to get these kids home as quickly as possible.

The only consolation I can only offer that once that plane touches down and you are home with your beautiful kids the joy they bring to you life will totally overshadow any hardships along the way.

Congratulations it won't be long until your kids are home - Happy Holidays.

Kama - "Polish incompetence has some special features" you crack me up!!!. Oh I found the picture I drew in high school of Bjorn B. the other day and though of you!!
