news on fingerprinting
I just got a message from the immigration that they scheduled me to be fingerprinted on November 6th. It takes them 2 months to fingerprint us! I wroter her back and begged her to give me an earlier date. She wrote back that she forwarded my request to her supervisor and will let me know about the decission. You think Poland is a mess?

Messy messy messy...
Whenever you have one government involved, you get a mess. When you have multiple governments involved, the mess grows exponentially...
As for our I600A approval... I received a frantic call from the agency that my home study social worker used for International Home Studies (while he was in Germany) saying that she (some woman I had never heard of) had just received a phone call from the USCIS office saying that they didn't have my birth certificate and that I had to "fax it to the following number immediately or the case would be delayed". Of course they didn't have my birth certificate; my birth certificate is in Polish. The I600A informational forms specifically state that what is necessary is proof of citizenship, which CAN BE a US birth certificate, or a US passport, etc. So I instantly faxed my Polish birth certificate, wondering why on earth they would need it. A week later we received a letter in the mail stating that our application was MISSING MY PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP. Aaaaargh. Clearly the person at the HS agency (who had never even really heard of me since the HS guy was an independent and only used their official letterhead) assumed that for me proof of citizenship = birth certificate, and she skipped a step... Thinking we would save a tree, my husband and I made copies of our US passorts ON ONE PAGE side by side and figured they'd have fewer papers to lose. It is likely, however, that they make separate folders for each parent to be and instead of cutting the passport page in half, they stuck both of our passport copies into hubby's folder, so the person inspecting my folder noticed a clear lack of... proof of citizenship! Oy vey. Anyhow, another quick fax straightened the problem out... but probably added 2-3 weeks of processing time for the approval...

Nov 6th!?!?!?! Oh my -- I will pray they can move you up. I can't imagine there are that many people that you can't go for ANOTHER month after the month it has taken to respond to your request.

When a coworker recently purchase his first home, he scanned everything he could possibly need into PDFs and then scanned anything else anyone ever asked for also as a PDF. Would this help in the case of adoption? Obviously some thing need seals, official verified translations, etc. Has anyone done this?

Yeah, Megan. It's absolutely crazy! The USCIS webpage advertises that they give the priority to adoption but in reality their words mean nothing. Those who have federal jobs get paid the same whether they work or not, so why should they work? Or care about what they do. Oh, I know I am very bitter tonight. I hope you guys don't mind.

Hey - I have a federal job!!!! And that gave me the privilege of walking in and out w/ my fingerprints (twice) in under ten minutes, the very day I walked into that office. Seriously, I understand your frustration.
Tony - Keeping a PDF of all files is a good idea. I have quite a few for adoption and also for buying a house, and when some agency/employer/bank needs a form, it's ready to be e-mailed to them. |

So from your point of view, LisArno, is there anything I could do to speed up the process? I'm desperate at this point. My original home study is good till Dec. 20th this year.

Tony,
I scanned our documents after they were notarized and have then on a file. While it isn't the original it is another form of a copy. I figure this way if something happens to the paper copy I can always print off another copy ![]() Megan |

Unfortunately, I don't work with any agency that would do you any good. I'm a mere teacher who is employed - and paid - by the federal government (Department of Defense). I was able to get fingerprinted on my local military base.
I looked at US Department of State - Home Page and found: Fingerprinting requirements . The PAP, his or her spouse, and any adults 18 years of age and older residing in the PAP’s residence must be fingerprinted. If the PAP is residing in the United States, USCIS will schedule the fingerprinting at an ASC (Application Support Center). https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=A SC is a link to where they are in different states. Maybe you could try a different place??? Might be a further drive or inconvenience, but you might get a quicker appointment. Since I didn't have to deal w/ this, I don't know if that is really an option. It took FOREVER (about 9 weeks) once we said yes to our kids to when we first got to travel there. Because of this, our I-600A was set to expire before our second trip. After tears and begging - so we wouldn't have to refile everything and pay the $$$ fee again, things were done "differently" for us in Poland for our second trip and we got to the consulate the day before the I-600A would have expired. We also had had to have our home study updated for more $$. I understand your frustration! |

I got great news today!!! The immigration boss wrote me and told me I could be fingerprinted tomorrow. I am so excited. Perhaps things will work out fine after all.
Thank you, LisArno, for your message. ![]()

That's good news
Knowing that these offices mess up, I'd bring a copy of that e-mail w/ you as proof of your appointment. |
