Single male adoption
Does anyone know if single males are allowed to adopt in Poland? I have successfully adopted two boys in the U.S. and would like to consider adoption in Poland.

In Poland for international adoption, there is a huge preference given to folks who have Polish heritage, Catholic, and/or are a married couple. You've already said that you are single. Are you either Polish or Catholic? Also, they are quite strict on the not being more than 40 years older than child.
I've only heard of a few single women adopting and they adopted either older (like a teenager) or special needs. These women had either no children before or only one child at home. So if you were interested in an older boy (9 or older) or older brothers or would consider a boy with special needs, maybe. If you are looking younger and healthy and/or girl, probably not. |

Single male adoption
I am not Polish, but one of my two adopted sons is (though he is U.S. born, his relatives are Polish). I am Catholic of Lithuanian descent.
I am interested in two older boys. I have two 12 year olds and wanted to get them younger brothers, maybe 8-10 years old. Think it's possible? My adoption agency says they're pretty sure single males can't adopt in Poland. |

Hi,
If you have provable Lith ancestry and you are interested in boys older than 8, Lithuanian might be a good country to consider. Your agency might be right. While there is no law against single males, I wouldn’t be surprised that there is prejudice against singles especially single males. The country is changing but a lot of the attitudes to things are very 1960s. Early 60s. |

To my knowledge adoption by single males are not possible from Poland. Even though single females can adopt, there is a strong preference for married couples (a man and a woman) to adopt, and single females I know of have been waiting for a long time for referrals (several years).
