I am a nervous flyer too...and a screwdriver does wonders for me. A double actually...if you are not a drinker...I reserve that for plane flights...then your Dr. should prescribe you some tranquilizers.

Also drink LOTS of water to help with jet lag! Good luck...I hope it all goes well and I can't wait to see and hear about everything!

Take some light reading, books and magazines that you normally do not have time to read. We actually got some parenting magazines for our last trip to Poland in May, and my wife also bought some women's magazines (9+hours flight). In the past, she used to take books by Dostoyevsky and similar, but heavy reading just does not work on a long flight! :-) Of course you can watch the movies and listen to the music, but it does not usually work that well for us for some reason. We personally do not suggest drinking alcohol or coffee on the flight - water/juice will leave you feeling better and it will be easier to overcome jetlag once you are there.

You can also practice your Polish I have an "In Flight Polish" CD, but it would take me numerous around the world flights to master it.

Light reading and magazines are also a good idea for your flight. Take ones that you don't want to keep and you can leave them somewhere in Poland in hopes that someone might want to practice their English. It also lightens your load a bit.

Best wishes when you meet your children!!!!

Congrats!!!! It's so exciting to get to meet your new little ones!

My advise for the plane........if you are traveling on the Polish airline.....is to take Benedryl if you have any type of allergies. I loved traveling on the airline, very nice and friendly people, but some of the planes are older and still have the reminiscent smell of cigarettes. Of course, you are not allowed to smoke anymore but the smell is still there!

PolishMom: Did you travel with LOT recently? This is one of the airlines with the newest planes, and I have not been on an old one in years! I was just a little surprised by the comment. LOT may have older planes on the domestic connections, but I have not heard this comment about the transatlantic flights.

Karen -

We flew on LOT in 2001 and in again in late 2005. Yes, they do have newer planes but some of the older ones are still out there. Doesn't hurt to be prepared in case you get one of the older ones.
