referral meeting
Hello Everyone,
Just to let you know that my wife called the public adoption center (one of the three) in Warsaw today and was told that this month's referral meeting will be held tomorrow (Tuesday, 6/13). If any of you are registered with that center, who knows, we may have some new referrals soon. Thursday and the rest of the week is a holiday in Poland (Corpus Cristi), so my wife will be calling them again on Wednesday to check the status. However, we do not expect a referral yet as we have only been qualified as adoptive parents only a month ago (mid-May). |

We still haven't gotten a confirmation letter saying that we are approved yet...we are quickly approaching our frustration date (end of July) for that notice...did you actually get a letter from Poland saying you were in the approved pile?

Oh...one more thing...when you do get your referral can you send your child anything...like a scrapbook with pictures...or is this a bad idea?

Is there any way to know when the Catholic adoption center meets?

No, unfortunately there is no letter. Our attorney was not very eager to give us our case number (a case number is assigned to each file, like this: xx/2006), but she did and it is very helpful when my wife calls the adoption center. Our sense is that agencies/facilitators guard the detail to some extent. Knowledge is power (and money).

Our understanding is that when you accept your referral you cannot make any contact with the child until you go to Poland and go to the first court appointment. After the first court appointment, you will spend 2 weeks bonding with the child (you can take the child on vacation or spend the day with the child and then return them to the orphanage every evening). That's when you can bring albums, scrapbooks, toys, clothes, etc.

We are only familiar with the procedure at the public adoption center in Warsaw and have limited information about the other two (TPD or private and the Catholic center). We have some indication (based on correspondence with other adoptive parents) that the procedure at TPD and the Catholic center is different. It seems as if the dossier is only submitted when the family receives and accepts a referral. These two work strictly with licensed agencies in various countries (they must have a formal agreement to work with the agency). The public center, on the other hand, accepts both individual and agency submitted applications for adoption. Does anyone here have more specific information about TPD and the Catholic center?

I just happened to ask my facilitator to let us know when we were approved. She wrote right back and said, "You're in!"
Think I'll ask for our case number now that Jasiu mentioned it though!
