How long before a match?

We are waiting to be matched and wonder, how long did it take before a child was placed in your home? And did you end up adopting that child or did u get multiple placements before you did adopt? We are looking for kids ages 2-7..Thanks!

What type of match are you refering to? A foster placement? A fost to adopt placement? or a straight adoption placement? Here's my experience:

We were open/available for all 3 types of placements. We weren't even certified yet, when my agency had a 7 yr old boy that was a fost to adopt placement. We met him the night of our 2nd homestudy appointment and he was placed with us a week later. My agency was 95% sure he would go to adoption due to the family history. Unfortunately, the placement didn't work out and he had to be moved.

We still weren't certified yet and then we got a call for a pure foster placement of 2 girls (ages 11 and 12). We were finally certified several weeks after their placement. They stayed with us for 6 months.

A month before they left, we started our straight adoption search. It took 3 months to be matched with an 11yr old boy. He was placed and we finalized Oct 08.

In Jan 08, we decided to look for a girl under age 12. We were matched with several girls within state, but we ended up pursuing an adoption out of state with a girl in FL. The total time to be matched during this search was 6 months. We are now waiting on ICPC to be completed so she can be placed (we've already visited her 2x in FL).

Not only are ages going to affect when you get a placement, but the needs you are willing to take and race.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Good luck!!

Thanks for the response, we are looking for a girl to adopt or foster to adopt with the choice being to adopt her later...and she would have to be under the age of 9..as my youngest bio boy is 10 and oldest is 12 so we will NEED to keep to that age group. My boys are very small for their age so we will look even more strongly for a girl age 2-7 or a child who is shorter, preferably. My boys, my DH and I sat down as a family BEFORE we became certified as to what we as a family wanted..their own opinion was that the child had to be younger and smaller, so we are going to honor their request for that. We are very active as a family as well, so a healthy child, physically is important as well..so we may be waiting awhile, I figure. I so appreciate you taking the time out to write though as we are waiting to see if this avenue works out...we in the past struggled with infertility for 3 years before being prayed over at our church and having our boys easily first try both times. We still can have another bio child and if this doesn't work out we may end up doing that...but we just feel God calling us to adopt..as my Dad adopted me as a child myself..so I am hoping it works out as I just love kids, but I know its in Gods hands, thanks again for the response...
