Monday night my ds (5) had the weirdest accident. He was sitting at the dining room table, fooling around. (He was the only one there - he needed to finish what was on his plate).

While fooling around the chair tipped forward and off he went.

This table is an old laminate table, the edge is NOT rounded.

My poor baby!!! He hit the edge right on the side of his throat/neck! I scooped him up and couldn't believe it!! It looked soooo painful!

I wanted to bring him to the ER but cooler heads (dh) prevailed. It is, basically, a scrape. It just freaks me out because it is on his throat. (If he had had ANY problems breathing or swallowing or such, he would have gone imeadiately). If that same scrape were anywhere else it would not bother me so much.

Now for the vent. As I am comforting my baby, the back of my mind is wondering is the daycare is going to believe me about what happened. In this day and age I feel like parents are targeted anytime a child is hurt.

When I brought him to daycare this morning, I showed them the scrape (which looks MUCH better by the way).
I showed them partially so that they are aware that is may still be sore, but also so they don't think I am hiding anything.

Isn't is sad I have to think this way? I can't even comfort my crying son without wondering...
