I remember touching my wife’s belly and feeling our baby moving from one spot to the next, really thrilling experience. I also remember thinking ‘we are actually creating life’, the most awesome thing in the entire world.
Now on the other hand, there were definitely times that our baby was a nuisance to getting a goods night sleep. Now it’s not the baby’s fault; he needed things that he couldn’t provide for himself. Here’s the situation, all of a sudden at 3:20am, crying, crying, crying, the sound of desperation. Our baby is saying, “tend to me quickly or NO ONE is going to sleep tonight!” Now this is how I get a good night sleep without sleeping on the sofa in another room. There are several things that babies need in the middle of the night. Peace and quiet, food, room settings not too hot, not too cold, not too much light, its got to be just right, and his diaper cannot be soiled. Think of it in terms of what if it was you. Going to sleep on an empty stomach (not fun); blasting your stereo and listening to rock music that can wake the dead (let alone you); if you wet your clothes in the middle of the night, do you think you are going to be pleased? (I think not) This is my remedy, it isn’t the cure all but it dose help quite a but. I don’t let my baby sleep on an empty stomach; I give my baby a warm 4-6 bottle of pabulum and milk before putting him in his crib. Food calms a person. Look at it this way; remember after eating Christmas dinner, and having the feeling of being stuffed and sleepy? This is the same feeling your baby feels. I check that his diaper is clean and I use rubbers to keep the bedclothes dry. Now days there are diapers that are leak proof that I use. Set the mood for your baby. First things first, I use a night-light to keep the room dark. I set the thermostat at a rage that is comfortable, 70 degrees is normal. I also fix another small bottle in case he wakes up, 4-6 ounces of milk and pabulum that can be warmed quickly. Each time you give your baby a bottle, be sure to burp the baby before you put the baby back into the crib. There’s nothing worst than when you finally get back in the bed to continue your sleep the baby spit-up the pabulum all over the crib and himself (double duty). I also keep a diaper at the ready, talcum power, pacifier and the like. Sometimes, our baby just wakes up making little noises waking us up. That unusually tells me that he took a nap during the day that was too long. When this is the reason, I let my baby sleep for only about one hour at a time(during the day) then wake him up. Waking him up helps to regulate his sleeping habits for sleeping longer at night instead of long daytime naps. Sleep is good for babies; this is the time they need for growth. Another thing to remember is that infants will rule your time until they are able to change there sleeping patterns that are more compatible with yours. In the meantime, love your baby like you love yourself and sweet dreams. aaewc http:www.unique-gift-idea-information.com Last edited by aaewc : 04-23-2005 at 03:01 PM. |
