Well Shoot! I'd be shopping for a new washer and until it could be delivered, I'd be buying disposable clothes...wear and toss...

I've always admired people who actually fix stuff. I can't even sew buttons! And yes...I took Home Ec in Junior High...

Oh me too, I've always admired women who could fix anything!

The only type of sewing I do is buttons. You had me laughing thinking about that Home Ec. class we had to take in junior high. It was my least favorite class. I remember I got a "D" in it. Now I laugh about it. LOL

BTW...I have begun using the "Auto Dry Permanent Press with Press Care" cycle instead of the "Timed Dry" cycle and WHAT A CHANGE IN MY CLOTHES! Oh my gosh! Thank you! I feel rather silly now . I've had my dryer for 9 years and I hardly used that cycle. I thought it was for delicates. I've used it with everything but my towels and WOW. Even my jeans don't need ironing. (happy dance here) Thanks everyone! My ironing is so miminal now that it is not even a problem. hurdle overcame...

NOTE TO REMIND MYSELF: Teach children how to do laundry. Doing it all for them won't teach them a thing.

Wait, you IRONED your jeans?!? Oh, honey, in my entire life I've never even needed to iron my jeans, much less done it! I would have shot that dryer years ago if that's how my clothes were coming out!

Well, I am so glad you started this thread!

Because I learned something about the Permanent press cyce, too! I am not an ironer by any means. If I have an event where I need to look THAT neat - I generally just go purchase something new, or take something out of the closet that is still in the dry cleaning bag (that doesn't happen that often).

In college, one of my jobs was working in a laundromat doing wash-dry-fold.. I like doing laundry (it is sort of Zen for me... but only the hang and fold part). My husband and I just hang practically EVERYTHING except underwear, socks, pj's and workout clothes straight out of the dryer. Hey, you know, you can take clean clothes to the cleaners and get them to do "press only" (I remember this; I've never done it, but I would if my husband had to wear those serious shirts to work... fortunately they are "business casual" -- which translates to lots of polos for my husband!)

I pull the clothes out hot and may try to press them a bit with my hand!

But now I am hoping for *neater* days with my new tip about permanent press! (and maybe I will start ironing a little... after all, I have to grow up soon - I am going to be a mom!).

D.

DISPOSABLE CLOTHES??? I had never heard of that. In any event, a new washer is not in the budget. But a lot of people buy new stuff with their tax returns, so--if the new water pump costs more than $50, I'll be buying a used washer.

I didn't know what that cycle was for either. I have never used it on my dryer, but might have to try it. Right now it is warm enough, though, that I'm hanging them on the line.

BTW, I totally agree with teaching kids to do the laundry. I started doing my own at 8. I once saw an episode of 7th Heaven where they said that they had a rule that, if a child is old enough to have final say over what they wear--they are old enough to wash it themselves.

Amom2two - see...that "D" in home ec. really ruined you! Ironing jeans and no press cycle knowlege....he he Glad life is a bit easier now that you have discovered the 8th wonder of the world!

DDhuab - I do the "hand press" on my dh's polo shirts too...while looking at my purty purple iron muttering "See..I don't need you!"

NDN - Disposable clothes....the clothes you buy and never wear except when you are painting, doing yard work, or haven't done your own laundry because you've spent all week doing the family laundry. You know...the $.50 garage sale t-shirts or the $2 walmart shirts....

I am lucky in that my kids think doing laundry is fun. They all (ages 4,5,7,8) bring down their baskets and help me sort by color etc., have a stool they stand on to throw clothes in and love to put the soap & softener in. They like to fold a bit and they all with the exception of my 4 year old put their clothes away after I've taken the baskets back up to their rooms. Course my 4 year old also tends to throw in extra things that should not be in the washing machine...and of course his ninja turtles, spidermans, hotwheel cars etc. all get "baths" because as he says "they like the bubbles".

I have washed many toys, rocks, etc (maybe that's what happened to the machine)...My kids probably would have put to dogs in there if they would fit. Any excuse for them to "wash" something.

Well, you all have taught me about a new cycle on the dryer...what is the permanent press cycle on the washer for? As you can tell, I still do laundry the way my parents taught me when I was 8--the same cycle every time.

LOL Crick about your child throwing his toys in that like bubbles!!!! That is so cute.

My daughter throws her bunny (stuffed) in and then get's upset because it's all wet and takes hours to dry! Good tip about having your 4 year old helping. My daughter will be 4 in May. She hasn't shown much interest in it. Maybe I can entice her to begin with her Strawberry Shortcake clothes. She is wild about that character and that might pull her interest some.

((ddhuab))) LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one.... That cycle has made my life soooooo much easier. I love that it beeps every so often while continuing to run, reminding you to get the clothes out without over heating them. Great item when you have tiny one's and can't drop everything and run and then you forget about the clothes:eek. Before when I used that cycle, I found the beeping annoying which turned me off to it. Now I understand the meaning behind it. and see the beeping as "mothers little helper" instead of a demanding screaming dryer saying "I'm done, Come Get me NOw!" LOL

LOL you guys are too cute!! I think that cycle on the washer changes the speed of the swishing and spinning.... I just use it as default....
