Thanks, Claud!! I am so happy to have found my "laundry twin"

Casey
(Yes "laundry twin" was a cheesy reference to the Friends episode where Joey found his "hand twin"

Uh oh, uniforms. My dd starts school soon and will be wearing a uniform. I am praying that it is cotton/poly blend. Either it will be going out to be laundered with dh's chef jackets or I will be the ridiculed parent when dd arrives with the wrinkled look.

All right, so mine's as much a fantasy as yours. We can dream!

You could always say what I have been known to say on occasion when remarks have been made about my children having wrinkled clothes,or clothes that weren't name brand, or whatever...especially when it comes from complete strangers.

Well, we're trying to teach them that there are more important things in life than just clothes. They get enough superficial messages from the rest of the world.

I know it's a bit mean, but I've never found anyone with a comeback. Granted they talk about me behind my back, but they did that before.

OK, say what my mom would encourage you to say,"Well yes it took a while to get out of bed this morning, we were up quite early actually and well, just lost track of time." My guess is many of these gals would be greeen with envy. This was my mom's advice for how to handle my annoying aunt how asked me, "Just what exactly do you do around your home to contribute if your husband does his own laundry and cooks more than you?" My mom's retort, "Tell her you blank him like a bunny, that'll shut her up."

BTW, I don't iron. I usually get the clothing competitive vibe on the playground. The funny thing is hubby will ask if the other moms notice how cool baby's outfit was. I don't care if the clothes are wrinkled or even dirty, as long as they work and have a hip look.

OK, now I have to pipe in! I cannnot figure out where some of you live that people actually comment on your pre-schoolers clothes! I mean, if they are going to school / day care, they are going to be filthy when you pick them up - at least if the kids are having any fun at all! I get all of my daughters clothes at Mervyns or Target (Same company). I find 1 pair of pants, or shorts or shirt (whatever is needed) that is wash and wear, and I buy one in every color. I never spend over $5 on any 1 item, and I hope to get everything off the clearance rack whenever possible!

If it needs to be ironed, it does not get bought, because my ironing skills are about as bad as they come! Everything I buy can sit in the dryer for a week (which it has sometimes) and look just fine!

this moring as i was pulling one load of clothes out of the dryer, placing another in the dryer and starting the washer (i don't know how one tiny little human can cause my laundryto go from 3 loads a week to 6 loads a week ), i got a big smile on my face remembering this thread. i actually don't know where my iron is

my son has 6 day care outfits, one stays and school and the other 5 he rotates through out the week. that way when they get stained and ruined, i don't care. when the season is over those clothes get pitched and the new set gets worn. one time when my son was little, the daycare person put him on the changing table and had forgot to get all the sanitizer off, his out fit got bleached in the back. when i picked him up she apologized but said, she was glad it was him because she knew i did not care about the daycare clothes. the dirtier he is at the end of the day, the more fun i know he has had!

Kay and McKenna, I'm so glad you two posted. I was starting to feel like a bad mom because I buy my preschoolers the $3.00 Walmart special clothes for school. My kids only own two nice outfits apiece. We are lucky in a way. The preschool my kids all went to sends a note home on the first day telling you not to send your kid to school in anything you don't want ruined. Then we can all dress our kids like slobs and not feel guilty about it.

I don't iron. We are all wrinkley around here all the time. Look like little sharpai puppies. If we are going someplace nice I will get the clothes out a month ahead of time and figure the next time my mom comes over I can talk her into ironing them before she leaves.

Sounds like I'm a whiz at laundry though, compared to Claud . I get it washed, dried, folded, and put into baskets to be carried upstairs. By the time it makes it up there it's usually covered in 20 lbs of cat fur. Apparently, warm laundry is an awesome place for them to take a nap. Then, my husband puts it on, gets cat fur up his nose, notices everything he's wearing is a little furry, and tells me we are getting rid of the stupid cats. In nine years, I haven't lost a cat yet, lol.

I hate laundry, but it's a thousand times more preferable to me than cooking. I use laundry as an excuse not to cook, so laundry is good for something. I'm sorry honey, I did laundry all day today and I'm just too tired to cook. Can you pick up some take out on your way home? .

When my daughter was little I worked at Wards and I would buy them for the next year then they were clearance plus at 50% off the clearance price....plus my 20% discount... and then our trend was to get enough to apply for credit and get another 10% off on top of it... lol!!! (Did the same for furniture.. I was the lead of kids at the time, so I just left the discontinued crib that I wanted in the back.... and used the same 50,20, 10 method!!!)

Guess that is why they went under.....

amom, the more I think about what the women said to you, the more annoyed I'm getting, lol. I can't stand people like that. What, they have nothing better to do with their pathetic life then worry about everyone elses?

I want to know how people even keep their kids looking neat? How is that possible? I got the brilliant idea that I wanted a picture of all five of my kids together last week. I took them all to my mom's (so she could iron, lol) an hour before we had to leave so I could get them ready with two extra adults around to help. By the time we left, my oldest had egg stains on her shirt - I still don't even know where she got the egg!, the two boys managed to find markers, the youngest girl looked like she had been thrown into a tornado and spit out the other side, and Allie had once again gnawed on a cat and had that whole spit and cat fur thing going on. That's with three adults and one of the kids was 12! You would think with one big kid and three adults we could manage a whole hour to get out the door with everyone looking nice. Nope, not even close. I want to know who these neat people are, and how in the heck they make their kids look like a Hallmark card!

Cleo,

The cats...how do you get rid of the hair? We've got a couple, and dh, well...he constantly complains about it...we've gone thru HUNDREDS of those sticky roller things...

I've got a long haired cat...and he sheds so much that it clogs the drier! LOL

Any tips would be great!

Oooh, I like your thinking! I love a good bargain! I would have gone nuts getting all those discounts, lol. That would have made me happy for days just thinking about the awesome bargain I got. I'm guilty of another "bad mommy" thing. Don't tell anyone, but I let my kids wear hand me downs *GASP*! My grandma gets them from a lady for my boys and they all look brand new. I love the twice I year I get those 7 to 10 bags!!! It's like Christmas, lol.

believe me...I'm the queen of cheap clothes for school & play! They have some nicer outfits too but even those I tend to get at the outlet stores like Carter's, Gap, Oshkosh etc. but heavily discounted.

Plus...my 8 year old's outgrown jeans go directly to his sister, and if she doesn't destroy them, they go on to my next oldest son etc. Oshkosh jeans last forever!!! I hear they last even longer if you DON'T iron them....

I can't really comment on the wrinkled clothes snide remarks because I'm the mom who forgets to wear her shoes, rarely wears make up, lucky if I run a comb through my hair which is usually a different color every couple of months. They talk about ME...not my kids...LOL!

Brandy, duct tape, lol. I rip a piece off, make it into a circle with the sticky side out, and start patting things down. I have 12 cats, but none of them are long haired thank goodness! They shed, but not nearly as bad. For clothes, the wet it down and back in the dryer thing works for getting rid of cat hair, on my curtains I use the attachment on the vaccuum that looks like a brush, and my blankets I end up just washing a lot. I think the easiest way to deal with cat hair is just to learn to like looking furry LOL.

Okay, okay, I've amused myself with this thread for long enough. I have to actually do the laundry that I'm making fun of, bleck!

That's brilliant!!!

My kids wear hand-me-downs, yard sale finds, and consignment shop buys. The only clothes that I buy new (usually their dressy clothes) come from the clearance rack. At the end of the season, I buy what they are clearencing and keep it on a shelf in the closet until they grow into it.

My 4 year old thinks that you can't buy anything if it's not on clearance.

Also, when I worked at a day care, we told all the parents to not dress their child in anything (or let them bring anything) that couldn't be destroyed.

I just finished the laundry for the night and had to laugh. I was thinking about this thread and am glad that I am not an ironer, or else I would go insane right now .

My washer went on strike this afternoon, and I live 35 miles from a laudrey mat . SO...I am back to washing clothes in the bathtub (like I did in college) until I can get all of the water out of it so that I can take it apart to try to fix it. (I would take the clothes to my parents' house, but their washer quit last weekend--their new one was delivered this evening, but they didn't have it hooked up as of my kids' bed time.)

If I had to iron these clothes I don't know what I'd do.
