you guys are killing me-

I'll bite. I iron on occasion, about one item per week all for myself. Dh sends his shirts out to be laundered (I told him to iron his own clothes, thus the dry cleaners comes in). Dd's clothers are clearly going to be ironed by me.

Here's a thought, why not set aside those few items that have to be ironed and have ironing day ( or actually ironing 15 minutes). My mom ironed-in fact she was so ob-comp. that she ironed underwear and sheets, with three kids. I've learned to love wash and wear, but still carry some of the baggage of living with mom...

so seriously, iron at one time during the week, only what has to be ironed-that's my two cents.

Lisa

Too funny claude...!!

I DO fold.. not underwear, but socks -- always.. and I DO fold right away -- and they have to be folded and hung the right way....

I think it all goes back to the fact that I cannot iron and must do everything to avoid it!! LOL

Your story was SOOOOO funny!

I have girlfriends who iron so well that they are in charge of ironing for their husbands. I can't iron to save my life and when we first got married, DH needed a lot of his shirts ironed. I ended up burning a really nice shirt and, guess what???????? NEVER had to iron again. He now irons for the boys (but mainly because all four of them are in private schools with a uniform policy. Our oldest son is in the 10th grade and he can iron really well, even touches up his blazer from time to time.....puts his poor mother to shame!!!!!!!! Darn it!

I think I might have to fight your for it! I have started piling laundry on the bed in hopes that I will fold it before bed. In reality, we just pick up the pile and shove it (completely overflowing) into a basket by the bed so we can sleep. We do not have any kids yet, but we have woken up in the morning to find that our dogs (we have 3) have dragged pieces of clothes from the basket to different areas of the house, slept on them, shed on them and slobbered on them! Now, you would think that would get rewashed, right? Sometimes they do, but sometimes we have resorted to using a lint roller!!! Luckily, I have trained my DH that you must iron all the clothes that people will see before you put it on. Now, ironing is not ideal, but when your clothes have spent 2 days in the dryer and 3 days being shuffled back and forth between the basket and the bed and possibly were used as bedding by one of the dogs, you have got to iron!! LOL.

Casey.... who needs to do laundry

LMFAO.... about this thread and the replies...

(((Casey and Eggy))) you have me rolling on the floor. My poor dh would have a heart attack if I tried anything like that.

Like Lisa, I think I got this bad habit from my mother. She used to iron underwear, socks and sheets even. I always remember her saying, it's the first impression that counts! Grrrr

With my daughter in preschool now, I have become real aware of how other mothers keep their daughters. Most arrive to preschool in dresses with their hair done just right. I look at these little girls and wonder, how do their mothers get them to look so neat and have their hair done. My daughter wears a pony tail. It's neat but too hard. I have mostly cotton stretch pants for her as she is very thin. When they come out of the dryer, they are all wrinkled. I know I will be looked down on if I spend her to preschool without her clothes ironed. I grew up in that town and they are very judgemental about everything. My son has little button down shirts that are cotton and come out all wrinkled also. There was one day that I got her dressed and her clothes ironed but did not have time for my son's. Needless to say, someone commented on it at school, saying "looks like you over slept this morning, huh. I WANTED TO PUNCH HER IN HER FAT MOUTH!!! l These women arrive with their makeup on, their clothes pressed, and their children's hair done in fancy styles. Here I am, just trying to make it there on time, hoping my children look neat.

Maybe I could respray and hit the dryer again. I haven't thought of that. Also maybe I should iron when they come out of the dryer. NOT EVERYTHING, but just the stuff she wears to preschool.

As for my DH, he irons his own shirts.

If anyone in your house takes a hot shower, just hang the clothes in the bathroom. They will get steamed nicely and you don't have any added work.

(Casey) you saif that you don't have any children yet--other then the dogs, or course. I just though that I'd let you in on a basic laundry rule: Every person added to the household, regardless of size, will DOUBLE the laundry from the previous amount. 2+ 1 does not = 3 in laundry.

Amom--have you tried knit pants? DD wears knit pants and cords and sometimes jeans. If they don't sit in the dryer too long they don't wrinkle (maybe your dryer is set too hot?).

Also, I lay out my clothes the night before --you could iron the night before.

I stopped Ironing when John got out of the Marines...I couldn't even tell you where the Iron is right now...

I figure I ironed enough during the two years we were married and John was active duty, that I don't have to iron anymore...and I feel no guilt about that

The few clothes that we have that do need an iron usually get that wrinkle spray stuff..

Before John and I got married, the only thing I ironed was my sheets...now I don't even do that!

(((spraypets))) I'll have to try knits. I also think you're right about my dryer being set to hot. Clothes should not come out of there hot and wrinkly. LOL Loved the idea about ironing the clothes the night before. That will work!

((NDN))) I am going to try the shower thing tonight with the clothes. See if that will work before I iron. Thank you for the tip. Your soooo right about your laundry doubling. I thought when I went from 1 child to 2, no big deal. YIKES. Was I wrong. Between bibs, baby clothes that have to washed seperately, and my daughters jeans that have fancy rhinestones and such on them, my laundry has more then doubled.

2+ 1 does not = 3 in laundry. so true, so true, so true!!!!!

hugs everyone!

ps... I promise not to punch anyone. They surely will talk about me then. I'm not a violent person, I'm more the type to internalize what they say and let it eat me up. LOL

Ah, Amom, I'm afraid I'm not as kind as you... I was going to suggest, not punching, but this...

Other Mom: "Oh, I see we overslept a little this morning."

You (coolly, but with a slight smile): Actually, no, we just didn't feel like ironing the onesies today. But I see you managed to get up early and eat a big bowl of MEOW MIX before school!

All right, so mine's as much a fantasy as yours. We can dream!

I have an iron. It's real purty too. Purple in fact. It sits on a shelf except when I get around to ironing on those patches for cubscouts and Brownies. You know...the so called "iron on" patches that come off in the first wash?

My kids didn't even know what an iron was until this past year...lol!

My ironing method is to remove those wrinkly cotton shirts from the dryer while still a tad damp and hang them up on the laundry bar. If I'm home to get the laundry out, then I'll just run the clothes on "Press Care" and that takes care of most wrinkles.

I buy Dh the "wrinkle free" dockers for work pants and he irons his own dress clothing.

The way I figure it, with 4 kids...I barely get the laundry done, folded and put away! Usually get it done except for the darn socks. My kids know to look in the basket in the laundry room if they don't have socks in their drawers. (so yes Claud...you win!) I try to do 2-3 loads a day just to keep up but that's just the kids' & dh's stuff. My own laundry gets done once a week and otherwise I do the smell test. If it smells alright...it's clean. LOL!

((((Coco)))))

I'm laughing so hard at that comment about the Friskies! I absolutely love it. Maybe I might just entice that Mom tomorrow by not ironing and see if she say's something to me.

(((Crick))

Press Care cycle???? I always wondered what that cycle was for? I used it once and the thing kept beeping instead of shutting off. I never used it after that. Thanks for educating me.

Do they really have stuff you can spray on the clothes to take out the wrinkles? Does it really work??? I love the idea.

This thread has been such a wake up call for me. Maybe I am just getting too carried away with my children appearing so nice and neat. I feel like I"m in this competition with her other preschool kids. Do you know they had an Easter Party there and I counted 12 girls that came in their Easter dresses with their hair all done. That was crazy. They were runnining around and sliding on the floor! They are 3 and 4 years old. It reminded me of my senior year in HS in that town. Eight seniors wore wedding gowns to the prom in hopes of becoming "the prom queen". I kid you not, they wore WEDDING GOWNS.

I don't live in this town, just close by.

OOH!! OOH!! Is it the one with the retractable cord?? I SAW that one... very cute. I almost needed it just to have....

As for the patches.. that doesnt bring out the iron it brings out the hot glue gun!!! HAHAHAA! I am so bad!

AMOM-- that is a rule of thumb always dry on the perm press cycle and always use the auto dry and not the timed dry (then it cools down at the right time...)

Casey...
I will admit it...I do the thing with the bed too.
I don't know how many times, I have piled up with bed with the best of folding intentions..and then hours later, dog tired..go into the bedroom to sleep..and "S#$@!!!" the laundry!!..so sweep!!! off to the foot of the bed..overflowing in the baskets!
One better, though..my hubbie LIKES to sleep in the laundry!!! SO if I don't get it off the bed first...I'll find him in a nest of clean clothes...so yes, the children get it from him..I blame him that they play in the laundry.
Right now..my clothes are in a pile in the attic ( my closet)..hubbies are away..the two littel ones are in baskets..unfolded, but ready to get into the right room of the house..and socks..in their happyt basket of terror!!
