My teenage stepson lost his best friend today due to a freak accident. Does anyone have any advice on how to help him through his grief? He is totally devastated.

I've read a book on grief in children, but I'm going totally blank trying to recall any of it.
You could call his school counselor, perhaps they would have suggestions, plus they could talk to your son, and he might be more willing to discuss his feelings with them. All I remember is that it can take quite a while for a kid (or anyone) to get through the stages of grief. |

I am actually working on a paper as we speak on adolescent grief. (Hence no time to really get into it.) I do have some suggestions though if you want to pm me. I should have more time tomorrow. Does he write at all. I would start by getting him a journal. Adolescents have an easier time putting words on paper than getting them out of their mouthes.
