highchair advice

Hi,

we need your help trying to find a highchair. We would like one that is wood and one that doesn't look horrific (ie plaids) in my dining room (pine and natural maple furniture, funky). Okay, we have two picked out and would like your votes/comments. One has its own tray and the other does not. I like the idea of dd eating with us at the table, but as a new mom, am I overlooking something here? What should we be thinking about in a highchair? (cross posting with gen adoption forum)

http://www.onestepahead.com/jump.js...1769&change=117

http://www.babybecause.com/detail.aspx?ID=573

there are also differences in price ($99 vs $219).

I should say that we're leaning toward the Svan highchair (the second one) because the first one (the eurochair) has a reviewer who mentioned the instability of the product. Since they have a great return policy, if we decide to go with the first one we'll check it out before using). Anyway does anyone have either of these chairs?

btw, for how long do kids use highchairs anyway?

thanks in advance for the input,

LisaCA

I vote Svan! It is a great chair and the stability is fine. I wouldn't get the seat cushions, they're just not necessary. I really like the fact that it a) isn't ugly, b) isn't huge, c) isn't plastic, and d) can be used in its various permutations for years.

We do not have a highchair. We live in a small house and we dont have a lot of extra room for a big bulky highchair. We are using a booster chair type thing. It is a light wood color and straps to one of our chairs. It has a removable tray so Claire can sit at the table with us or use her own tray. It is really nice and it is easy to clean. It is portable also. We take can take it to relative's houses when we go for Christmas. GOOD LUCK in your search and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

How long you use the highchair will depend on your child and your parenting style. My daughter used hers until she was a bit over 2 y.o. I also would only let her eat while she was sitting down at the table and not wandering around the house. She was okay with this though and was not a real squirmy baby. She used the tray for a long time and then we transitioned her to sitting up to the table. Now she sits in a booster.

I can't say what we'll do with my son, now 5 month old. He is VERY squirmy and I dont' know how he'll do with sitting still.....

Good luck. For price I liked the first one- for style I liked the second.

thanks!

we opted for a less expensive chair, since we weren't sure how dd liked sitting apart from us (she hates the car seat, stroller, anything where we can't hold her). Turns out she loves the high chair, at least for eating. we try to only set her in it when she's eating or we are. We bought one at IKEA and saved a ton-$49.99 plus $10 for the tray and $7 for the chair pad. We figure we might get another one later if she prefers to recline while eating.
anyway, thanks everyone for the advice!

IKEA chair $39

hey Lisa, we have antiques in our home and wanted to have our son enjoy the dining table with us, so we got him a wooden highchair from IKEA for $39 and it looks fabulous. You can probably order one online at the IKEA web site or if you have a local store, check it out. That's my advice
