Stress ! How to Manage It before It Manages You

Here are 10 ways to manage stress - yours! and the tips also work for kids ~

1. Identify symptoms of anxiety - headaches, sweaty palms, dry mouth, hair twirling, nail biting, foot tapping.

2. Ask for help - delegate tasks, talk with someone who you find friendly and nurturing.

3. Create an action plan - divide tasks into manageable parts and concentrate on one step at a time.

4. Identify activites that are relaxing - take a walk, listen to music, call a friend.

5. Look to challenges as ways of growth and learning - taking responsibility rather than blaming others is empowering.

6. Get enough sleep and eat in a healthy way.

7. Stay calm - write in a journal when emotions are intense, when you feel sad, disappointed, angry etc.

8. Set boundaries and know your limits - know when to say 'no', or to stop taking on more responsibilities; set attainable goals.

9. Set priorities - focus on what is most important first and arrange your to-do list accordingly.

10. Get physical - exercise increases energy and enhances mood ... do what you enjoy!

What are other ways you deal with stress?
How have you worked with kids who are stressed out or angry?

Smile dealing with stress

I deal with stress by doing yoga and meditating. I took a class during my last year of college and wish I would have taken the class sooner. It is very soothing and calming to me.
