kids on the news...
Has anyone ever adopted the "Child of the week" from the news stations? I specifically try not to watch this segment, as I would be inclined to take them all. But one child was brought to my attention by a family member who doesn't even live in the same state as me (the whole "sent by God" issue.) He is a 13 year old boy. We have called to get more information about him. Has anyone else ever fallen for a "news kid?" Has the adoption worked out? We have been foster parents for 9 months and have taken care of five babies in that time. My husband is a high school teacher and is very very very good with that age group. This situation just seems to be fitting together. I would love to hear about other experiences. Thanks! J

18 months ago we were seriously considering a Wednesday's Child. He was 16 and seemed like such a great kid, we did a little investigating and were pursuing it. Then our 4th child came to us on 24 hours notice- a 1 year old- and we realized that we were no longer in a position to do the older boy's adoption. He haunted me, I couldn't even look at their website because I knew he would still be waiting there. Then this spring at an adoption conference I asked his social worker what happened to him. He was adopted, the week after we got our new boy, by a wonderful single dad. He is happy and doing well and is a senior in high school. So while I don't know them personally, I know this story has a good ending.

kids on the news
they are all great with heart wrenching faces and stories. We looked into one and when our social worker got his information she warned us away from him.
Trust your workers judgement(if you trust them). And research any disabilities or psychological disorders they may have. They are probably erring on the cautious side. Also make sure you can talk to their foster parents. THis is crucial. And good luck and God Bless. |
