Congrats Marisma! Who are you using for your adoption process: a lawyer or an agency? Which one? Why do you have to reside in Panama for 1-2 months? The last families I heard were there for 3 weeks and one was there for 1 1/2 weeks and then had to go back for 3 business days to finalize stuff. Where is your child coming from, what orphanage? What was she born? Seems that birthplace is an issue with succesful adoptions. I look forward to readign your responses.

Hello Anita,
we are adopting with a lawyer, she is helping us a lot. Our daughter is from the Darién, but is living in a home for children in Panamá, Hogar Divino Niño. We want to do just one travel, and we are going to apply for having our daugter living with us while the process of adoption is going on, such as foster care, I Think. Then we will wait for the termination of the parents´rights, after this, the judge can allow us to come back with the child for the temporary convivence in simple adoption and get here the complet adoption. I don´t know if you could understand me because my English is very bad, sorry. Are you wating for referral? What age do you want? Good luck Marisma |

Congratulations!!! We stayed in Panama for a longer time and we were also a temporary home for our child which allowed us to finalize her adoption at our final court hearing.
Where are you planning on staying for such a long time in Panama? Do you have family or friends there? Is the termination of parental rights complete or is there a court date set for it? Are there a lot of families for Spain adopting from Panama? Good luck!! jane Last edited by janemarie : 10-30-2005 at 06:00 AM. |

Hello Jane,
the termination of parental rights isn´t complete but there is a court date set for it, we are arriving at Panamá a few days later. We don´t have any relatives or friends there, the only person we know is our lawyer. We are looking for an apathotel or a house for rent to staying there. We would like to know what areas or zones of the city are sure and quiet. Adoption in Panamá is not frecuent in Spain, there are very few families adopting there, we know two, one have had referral this month and other waiting. How long are you with your daughter? Happiness and good luck. |

Our adoption was completed 9 months ago. I think it is great if you can go and stay in Panama. You can help push the papers through quicker when you are there and especially if you know the language. However, it takes a long time for each step so I hope your estimate of 2 months is accurate. Has your lawyer told you what percent chance you will be there longer?
Good luck with EVERYTHING. If you need any help with sightseeing or anything feel free to private mail me. You can write in Spanish if you are more comfortable. Also, I wanted to suggest that you try to obtain your daughter's medical records. It is VERY easy to go to the main hospital and request copies of her health records. It may be invaluable later. jane |

Hi jane,
thank you for offering your help to us. Our layer haven't told us what percent chance we will be there longer. Today we have been talking with our daughter for the first time. She sounds very sweet, and she asked for many things about us and her brothers, and the house, and her toys, and her dresses, and .... many other thing. She talks a lot. It had been a beautiful conversation and she looks like very happy about us. Marisma. |

That is so FANTASTIC!! Your heart must just be aching to hold her!! Keep us updated and have a wonderful trip to Panama. I am sure you are very busy getting everything prepared.
Our daughter was also in that same orphanage and the workers there are super nice. I hope your experience is the same. jane |
