We adopted our son from Guatemala 4 yrs ago, now we are wanting to adopt a daughter. While our first choice would be Guatemala we already survived one nightmare with the Hague Treaty and don't want another one.

We are looking at other countries and the Philippines looks like a possibility. I have a co-worker who he and his wife are in the process but are looking for a sibling group within a definite age range and it has been taking forever. I was wondering what people's success has been with adopting a daughter under the age of three recently? Wait times? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

When we looked into the Philippines program they said the minimum age would be 2yrs old due to the fact that the Philippines are in general slow at getting kids paper ready to adopt. And the fact that the country is so spread out over all the islands its hard for the workers to get to the children in a timely manner. They also said it would be about a 2yr wait. Just the info we recieved as of 4 months ago.
Also, they said that the Philippines will not let you request gender.

We brought our daughter home on Dec 24 , 2007 She was 15 months old when we came home. she was 111/2 months old at referral. You can choose what age you are open too when you apply. We had indicated 0-4 yars old. You can choose 0-2 years old and from what I have seen on the adopt Philippines group the children in this catagory are most times 11 to 18 months at referral. They do not allow gender to be specified. We did wait 28 months for referral but we happened to hit a little slow down.(Which is perfect because our daughter wasn't ready for us) I still would say it would be about an 18 month wait from approval. I want to say I highly recommend the Philippines for adoption...they are very careful about matching you with your child and try and provide as much information as possible. We got a life book from the orphange a well as complete background information about the birth family and great medical information. The caregivers are wonderful and the ratio to children is much better then many other places. Our daughter has attached very well and is such a wonderful little girl. The people we met during our trip were so warm and polite...it was heart moving. The children are in orphanges and some are in foster care. The children are beautiful!! English is an official language , so most people speak some English and all documents are in English. The country is mostly Christian and they do feel strongly about having families that practice their faith. There are many beautiful children that are worth waiting for in the Philippines....All the best
