New here

Hello-
I used to chat (now lurk) on the Guatemala Adoption board. Since we may be complete with our family...I was wondering if I can join in here ?

I am 44 and DH is 46. We have a son and daughter both adopted from Guatemala.

AJ turned 3 in April. We brought him home in Nov 2006 when he was 6.5 months old.
Emily turned 2 in March. We brought her home in Aug 2007 at 5 mos old.

At this age they are a handful but I love it. The talking and independence is fun to watch and participate in. We love our kids with all our soul. We feel we are blessed, not lucky !!

Hi Ran! DH and I are exactly the same age as you guys and we also brought DS home the summer of 2007. We have just one child though.

For the most part it's been amazing. Sometimes I miss the energy of my youth but I certainly would not have made a better mom in other ways.

DS is also a handful. On certain days at least but what toddler isn't. I have to say, despite the fact I wish he had a sib, I'm starting to think one is good for us as parents. I don't know how people do it with two!

My biggest issue besides keeping DS safe (which is becoming much less of an issue as he gets steadier on his feet and is starting to LEARN thank goodness) is that he wants me to play with him ALL THE TIME. I can't take a shower, blow my hair or put on makeup which makes me feel gross many days.

That's another thing about being an older mom i didn't expect. I need more doc appts (which are a challenge to go to) and more time to get ready so I probably would have made a cuter mom had I done this earlier!

Are there many "older" moms where you live? I wish I could meet one but they are all younger and many many are pregnant as well. I really like them though and am no longer thrown by all the pregnancy at all PEACE finally.

Anyway, Welcome!

Thanks for reply.
We met 2 families on the Guatemala chart board that we hang out with. All parents over 40 and children under 4 !!
So we have a lot in common and a lot to talk about.

It is tough with more than one, I found that 2 doesn't just double the work, laundry, etc but it times in by 10+. But that includes the love, hugs and kisses you get !!

Welcome!

I just turned 46 and dh will be 49 this October. He is so dreading that big 50. I thought when he turned 40 was bad for him but then we had a newborn and that helped keep him young.

We have two boys. My oldest just turned 9 and my youngest will be 5 in two weeks. We are beyond the toddler years (oh how I miss those days) and moving ever closer to the teenage years....yikes.

I so agree with you. Especially the additional hugs and kisses.

Thanks for replying...

I had trouble at 40. Not having a family was very upsetting to me.
Tell DH to hang in there !!

I love the nicknames.
Happy Early Birthday to the Brickmaster
