Need advice please!!
We're going through the state. We are 45 and 42 and cant even seemed to get noticed. We do have 2 foster sons 2&9 but it looks like theyre getting moved to cousins. We truly would love to share the experience of a newborn-1 yr old infant.Do we need an agency? Is it legal to send out profiles to gyn's if you're invoved with DFS? So many questions, and its hard to wait.We have 0-10 on our homestudy.Truly we have come to learn we want a very young child, while we can still do it--lol.My county isnt very helpful,we just dont know where to turn.

I'll tell ya what:
I've yet to see too many divisions of DCF that DO notice older couples....UNLESS they're really, really wanting to place children they can't find homes for otherwise. I hate to say that, but long ago we saw this.... IF you're wanting to do a private adoption....at least in IL, you have to have a homestudy done FROM a private agency. I have NO idea what the difference is between a DCF and agency homestudy....but there IS, because this is what we---and everyone else we know moving into private agency adoption have found to be true. (Ridiculous, isn't it?) At any rate, I fully understand that wanting to experience the newborn. I can tell you right now, your ages---as far as infant adoptions (privately) are NOT a big issue. And, if you're wanting an AA baby, or multi-racial baby......you'll not wait as long either. Of course, adopting from an agency WILL require $$...not only for the homestudy, but for the legals and finals as well. And, once you have that homestudy conducted by an agency, you can 'take' it anywhere (or you SHOULD be able to take it anywhere). With that, you can apply with several agencies and adoption attorneys to hopefully lessen your wait. I wish you luck in this. PLEASE feel free to pm me if I can be of any help to you. We've BTDT. Sincerely, Linny |

Forget govt agencies...
We wasted a year with our local Missouri DFS. We finally dropped out after they told us we needed "parenting experience"...duh, how do I get that if you don't give me a baby??

We adopted one out of four from our local children's services as a foster-to-adopt. We were both in our 40's at the time. We were placed with another child who had been in foster care in another county (in Ohio) when she was 2 as a straight adoption because I had gotten to know the worker and she remembered us when our daughter was to be matched. The other two were private. I'd say your chances are very good. Don't give up. Get a good homestudy done, tell EVERYONE you know that you want to adopt -- your hairdresser, everyone. You could get an identified situation (someone knows someone who is wanting to place). It happens all the time. Otherwise, don't waste any time. Get that homeestudy done and out there! Best wishes.

Well we still have the boys but due to the parents we are having them removed. We really wanted straight adoption. They advertise so many kids need a permanent home but we are never even looked at.Our homestudy was done through an agency, not DFS our class was so big they had to broker us out-lol.But still nothing.I was told yesterday its because we havent been married 2 years, but thats coming up in Jan.I doubt if that will make alot of difference. So kids sit and wait 'thinking' no one wants them.
