OT: Speaking of 40...

For all you old geysers (hahahah, just kidding)....I am wondering you how you celebrated your 40th. I had a huge blowout for DH's and have been (not so subtly) expressing I want the same for myself (I have a few months left!).

How did you celebrate your 40th?

Ok....does it make me a REALLY old geezer if I can't remember <ROFLOL> Actually, as "old" as I am I do remember! My boyfriend at the time, now my DH, took me to my favorite restaurant in the city (famous for their steaks and pasta), and surprised me with a table for 12, where my closest friends and their hubby's and significant others joined us. It was a wonderful evening and the best wine and food ever! Now, DH is turning 50 in a couple of weeks and I'm thinking maybe I will surprise him the same way....maybe not at that restuarant, but at one of his favorites!

Have a wonderful birthday.....you sweet YOUNG thing!

Cheesehead (I love the name)....sounds awesome!

I actually can't wait to turn 40 (it's like the sword of damacles (sp?) is hanging over my head and I just want to get there and embrace it ALREADY!). Good luck in your adoption "journey!"

When I turned the big 40 I was living in Germany. I was single and childless. DH was my boy toy at the time. I went out to a fancy dinner with my "posse". The fancy birthday dinner is sort of a tradition with me. Then we went dancing until 2 am. At one point during the evening...so I'm told...I acutally started a congo line.
My 46th birthday, which was a few weeks ago. I went out with DH and Sabrina for a fancy dinner. We were home by 8 pm. I fell asleep on the couch with Sabrina, while we were reading a story. "Where the Wild Things Are". DH got us up and tucked us both into bed. My how times have changed!

Happy 40th!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rock on!!!

Turning 40 was almost 11yrs ago!!!!! Dh and I have birthday's that are very close and as I recall, we didn't do much.
At that time, we were still dealing with the nightmares from the older child adoptions and truly, we were very limited in finding anyone who could handle them so we could go on any kind of date. In fact, though respite is available around here, for children like we had, agencies wouldn't allow their foster parents to watch them!!!!!

Fifty, and soon to be fifty-one for our lives is SOOOOO much better!

Sincerely,

Linny

Sorry to say my 40th bday was very boring! I think that my 30th bday was more important....lol

I don't know if it was because at 30 I was still single and young and could travel.....at 40 I was married and had a 2 year old and wanted to add to the family.

Just have a great party with friends and family and enjoy the day. You deserve a day just for you!

Ummmm... I need to know your hints ajax... I'm turning the big 4-0 in 76 days and I want a party. (wow! What a whiner I am!) Or at least a trip. But DH is not so good at interpreting the subtle stuff. I'm reading this thread with interest!

Tammy, here is my "subtle" suggestion: "I better have a big whopping party!" (hahahah!).

This is a "big" year for us too as we are coming up on our 10th year wedding anniversary and debating a trip (sans monster, er I mean DD!) between either Paris or Iceland.

I am actually seriously looking forward to 40!

Okay Loveajax....I very am very jelouse because we are about to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and dh's goal was to go the Disney World(your destinations are far more cooler). But my niece is getting married in Colorado so our trip this year will be....guess....to COLORADO mid July.

Either destination will be way cool....you must let us know what you decide and how much fun you have!

Okay, definitely a "twins" moment, my friend!!! Turning 40 in APril, 10th anniversary coming in January (I know we just had our ninth but really... it is a biggie!!!)

And I think I like your form of subtlety!!!! I must try it someday but the sad part is that it might mean I'm planning my own party then and that ain't happenin'!!! Time will tell what he does. I did get roses on our anniversary without hardly (heehee!) any hint at all... so maybe there's progress.

Paris or Iceland???? Now there's two very different destinations!!! Iceland definitely, but my other choices might be Australia or South Africa (with the backup plan of Hawaii)... right now, someplace warm is at the top of my list because I'm freezing here! So Iceland (just because of the name... I do hear it's quite nice!) is out for me in this moment! But then, about all we can afford right now is the mountains in the "muddy season" (aka betw skiing and hiking, during the big melt!!!) of April so I might just settle for that and be happy to have Hubby all to myself and a few good night's sleep. Funny... now that I think of it, maybe THAT is the party I want for my 40th... wishing for a good night's sleep, party animal that I am!!!

Me and 10 of my closest friends spent a week in Negril, Jamaica at an upscale resort (The Grand Lido). On my birthday, everyone wore white to dinner. I, much to everyone's surprise, wore a royal blue dress (that was short, showed a bit of cleavage -no bra- and had spaghetti straps - not at all my style).

We had a dinner party on the beach with cake, champagne and the ocean in front of us.....It was simply spectacular!

P.S. I spent 6 months (prior to leaving) negotiating with the state to approve of and pay for my home daycare provider to watch my FC. I refused to send him to respite with someone whom I didn't know - I would not have been able to enjoy myself!!

My 40th birthday I was at my aunts house... didn't suspect a thing, even though my in-laws had come down from Washington to Oregon with us, my parents were there, my sisters family, both my brother's families, my cousins... even long standing family friends showed up. and I just thought "Oh how lovely we can all get together!" See, my birthday is December 23rd so is always overshadowed by Christmas. In fact the reason we were there was because we would be celebrating Christmas at my brother's home the next day. So, I was quite surprised when they brought out the cake and sang for my Surprise Birthday Party/Baby shower! Yes, baby shower. On my 4oth birthday I was 7 months pregnant!

My DH surprised me by planning a trip to Manhattan, took me to Daniel Boulud's restaurant (sat next to Liza Minelli) went to a Broadway show and shopping on 5th Ave. And I bought myself some black pearls. I have always wanted some, and I've never bought myself any "important" jewelry, so I did it. It was fun---we were in a little store in Soho and the clerk understood that it was a big decision for me and made the appropriate fuss---she brought out champagne for us in the store.

Loveajax, I was kind of like you---we had been to this TERRIBLE 40th bday party a few months before and I told him if I had to turn 40 at a party like that I would leave him. (Nothing like a little hyperbole to make a man spring into action.)

Okay, not so subtle here... I just read all these ideas to my Hubby. Deadpan look and then he said, "I'll keep that in mind." I am so not getting a good birthday party. But it's okay, I'll be happy with whatever happens... life is good no matter what!

And HBV, for the trip to Manhattan he said, "Is that Manhattan Kansas?" LOL!!!!
