LOL I live in a haunted house...well, sort of..It's only about 45 years old and as far as I know, no one ever died here.

The woman I bought the house from was moving because she was convinced the house was haunted and she was really afraid. It didn't both me a bit-as long as it wasn't an evil spirit! I had some really weird experiences when I first moved in but I can't say with 100% certainty that they were definately paranormal. It's a very quiet and peaceful house. If there is a ghost here, she's friendly and keeps to herself.

I'm in Maryland. I have two little girls. I love reading anything by John Sandford. Bargain shopping at a Unique Thrift and selling the gems on Ebay (darn those listing fees!!)

Read "How Safe Cords Kill" at www.pfwbs.org

THREE CHILDREN HAVE STRANGLED TO DEATH SINCE ANGEL DIED ON 8/11/09.
Brandyn Coppedge died on 9/11/09. Rosie Smith died on 9/30/09 and Thapelo Kwofie died on 11/1/09. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is no longer recommending safety kits. They are now recommending that anywhere children live or visit should be free of corded window products.

My turn.
My name is Kathy, and I am NOT a redhead! lol. the mrsred comes from the fact that we have a hauling business called Red Wagon Hauling & Disposal. DS does all the real work, I just handle the phones and the bookwork. Other than that I am a SAHM.
Our biological son was born two months after my fortieth birthday. When he was 8 we started the adoption process and six months later met our next son. He was 5 at the time, and we finalized his adoption a year later. Just a few months after that we got our daughter. She was 9 1/2 when she moved in with us, and it took ten months to finalize her adoption. And just this past summer we were matched once again, this time with a little girl that just turned 4. The parental rights of her birthparents are not yet terminated, but termination hearing is set for next month.
So, in case you have lost track, that makes me almost 52, with a son that is 11 3/4, a daughter that is 11 1/4, another son 8, and another daughter 4, two cats and one dog (that we just got a week ago).
In my "spare" time I am active in our church. I am on church counsel, sing on the praise team, lead adult sunday school and host a women's group that meets at our home on Thursdays, primarily made up of the women that teach Sunday School. I love to read, when I have the time, but lately the only reading I am managing is my Bible reading.
I like decorating and doing "theme" rooms. Our oldest daughter has a Tinkerbell room, and the little one a Princess rooms. DS11 has African Savanah and DS8 has Spiderman.
We used to live in a house built in 1890. We spent 6 years renovating it, then sold it and bought a brand new home. Our old house was in Tacoma, very much in the city. Our new home is in Yelm, a very small town near Olympia. Not at all city.

So, guess that's about it. that's me. If you are ever in the area look me up. We're in the yellow pages!

We live near Lancaster PA, and have two bio children ages 19 (college sophomore) and 16 (just got his driver's permit!), and three adopted, ages 8, 5, and 4. I work full-time as a school-age child care director, which is great because the kids are still with me before and after school. Plus the hours are such that I take a long break in the middle of the day and that is when I do most of my errands and housework. I can also eat lunch at the school and help out in their classrooms, and I love knowing so many of the other children and their parents. Anyway... I'm also finishing my Master's in early childhood education (one and half classes to go!) and in my "spare" time I scrapbook and make quilts. I also read a lot. The kids are all involved in sports (the 16 year old plays something year round, and the little guys will get there) so that keeps us busy.

Oh my gosh - I can't believe the similarities in our families! (Check out my post above). We also have a puppy (Bernese Mt Dog - Haligan) and two cats, Wrigley and Fenway. My H has been a volunteer EMT. He is a firefighter and is a fire instructor. We are both certified to teach CPR and 1st aid. We currently have 4 soccer players, but our oldest played through high school. Naturally, they are all on different teams (the oldest is high school), but at least the two youngest are in the same age level. Next year we'll have four age levels. But this is exactly what we wanted!

Mrsred we live in a house that was built in 1872. Before meeting dh I owned a home that I built and was in the suburbs. It was quite a change to go to a new house to an older home with its original windows and doors in an urban/downtown neighborhood. How is the adjustment going for you all?

Misuspotts wonderful to meet you and sounds like you keep very busy with your children. I am trying to figure out how to jugle all the activities that they are starting to be involved with along with school.

My turn?

I'm in my mid-50's (and starting to count backwards). My DH and I have been married for nearly 11 years, he's 10 years my junior. I have 4 biological children, all grown, and 6 grandchildren from that group, ages 1 thru 11. They all live out-of-state in Michigan and Colorado. We live in Columbus, Ohio but are Detroiters by birth (and in our hearts). You can imagine how difficult it is to be in the middle of Buckeye country when you are NOT a fan. My husband played college football for Northwestern University and we also root for the Wolverines. We have adopted 4 children since our marriage 11 years ago. Sons 11 and 7 and daughters, 8 and almost 2. We live in a very diverse area and love raising our children here. Although life in Columbus is different than our lives were in the Detroit suburb of Grosse Pointe. People seem more "self-involved" here, less caring. Detroiters have big hearts and are so warm and wonderful (despite what some may think). But God brought us here and it is much more diverse than where we previously lived. I'm a SAHM. We've done foster care for a total of about 6 years but not currently. We have a Westie named "Quincy". The kids are very involved in church and sports. Our daughter praise dances for our black/Catholic church, all 3 children sing in the children's choir, our children all play many sports so we are very, very busy but very, very happy. I just cannot imagine a life more full. Bingo isn't my style!! I have many friends who are adoptive moms so we feed off of each other on good days and bad days. Life is good. It's nice to read all of your bios. You sound like some very interesting families!!!

My turn...

My DH and I have been married almost two years, though we have been together for 5 and a half. We live on a small acreage in a tiny town in Eastern Oregon. We have three dogs -1 border collie and 2 mini daschunds, 6 chickens, a horse and 12 head of cattle.

I am a school district administrator in a larger town a few miles away. DH works in semi-truck sales

I have two older sons 24 and 22 from a previous marriage. They live close by...

For fun, DH enjoys team roping with our nephews. We spend alot of time watching Jr rodoes. I enjoy reading, gardening and attending my neice's dance competitions.

We started the adoption journey discussion just about a year ago. Have been officially waiting since June.

This is a great thread!

We live in North Georgia, near Chattanooga. DW and I have been married 5 1/2 years. Since we are in our mid 40's we have been through all the infertility stuff. Now, we have an 8 yo and a 7 yo. Going from zero kids for over forty years to two elementary school aged kids has been quite an experience. We're still not sure what ran over us!

We enjoy traveling, cooking, and trying new wines (wonder why we seem to be trying more lately?!) T and S seem to like to travel , so we are excited about that. We have visited DW's family twice since they have been with us, and that is about a 9 hour drive. Overall T and S have handled it very well. They seem to enjoy seeing new places. They both want to take a plane trip, so we are hoping to get one scheduled for next year. We might visit a friend in DC. They would love it.

Hello, I hope I am doing this right. I just wanted to say that I find this forum very encouraging. My husband and I are 49 & 45. We have 2 grown daughters. One is 22 & an officer in the US Air Force. She is a critical care nurse. The next is 20 and a junior in college for nursing. We have 5 kids at home ages 17, 14, 10, 7, and 6. Our youngest 3 are adopted transracially. I work part time as a geriactric nurse and my husband is a service tech with our local gas company. In our off time we enjoy doing anything with our kids, minigolf, traveling, garage sales. We had our homestudy updated 9-07 and would like to adopt one more time transracially. I really have been encouraged by this forum. Thanks.

Cindy

Hi, I'm Lisa(40) and my DH is Tim(41). We've been happily married for 20 years. Tim is in the National Guard full-time and I am a SAHM. We've(finally) just started the adoption process for Korea and I am so excited. We have 2 bio girls Rebecca(16) and Sarah(13). Oh, and we have 3 fur babies- Casey(a Shih Tzu), Phoebe(our princess cat) and Ted(our old, fat...er, I mean fluffy cat).

We live in beautiful Minnesota and try to take advantage of our wonderful campgrounds during summers. I love to make handmade bracelets, travel and hang out on eBay. My DH enjoys working around the house doing improvements and fix-ups. He recently retuned from a 22 month deployment to Iraq so, needless to say, there is a lot of fixing up to be done around here.

We hope to continue traveling with the little one when the girls are off to college. I just hope I can find some energy somewhere. Maybe I can borrow some from my husband. Anybody have some for sale? LOL

Oh yeah! And I love this website! The Over 40 forum is going to be my new favorite hang-out.
