Juliana....we lived in Japan too---before the toilet seats were heated, I suppose....but you made me laugh when you called them, "Star Trek" seats!
Good words to use to describe them!!!!! (Just had to tell you that... )

Another very useless fact...

Typewriter is the longest word that can be made using the letters only on one row of the keyboard.

According to the website! I just googled fun useless facts.

Another one:

Stewardesses (sp?) is the longest word you can type just using the left hand. (I would assume this is assuming you type with your hands in the proper position)

So I just googled the Japanese toilet seat! I'm a little frightened of all those buttons!

look funny... fun useless fact to add..

Slugs have four noses;
When possums are playing possum, the are not really playing. They actually pass out from sheer terror.

I didn't know that about opossums! I always thought they were just playing around to look dead so predators would leave them alone.

Oh Linny so true about possums. Dh cornered one in our shed and it came at him. All turned out okay for dh but not so for the possum.

When were you in Japan? When I was there ('93-'95) most of the seats were not the "Star Trek" seats, of course, most were normal. (normal for Japan, anyway.) I thought it was interesting that with all that technology and "advanced" standard of living, the public toilets were often still "squatters" - just holes in the ground of not very clean places. With no toilet paper. I quickly learned why they hand out those tissue packets (with advertisements on them) at all the train stations!! Very useful.
