Great Visit...

I thought I would post a "happy" thread about openness in foster adoptions.

My daughter had her first visit with her birthparents since finalization today. It went great! Her birthparents are not perfect (welcome to the club) so I expected some issues and there were a few really truly MINOR problems, very minor. Overall, they were supportive of me as "mommy", recognized when Pixie needed breathing room, and just did great with it. I always remind myself... how weird must it be to be them - having not "chosen" this for their daughter - and I try to see things that way. I think it helps.

If the visits continue to be this positive I think it will truly be wonderful for my daughter! Who, btw, did have a bit of a rough day afterward... I think it was a little overwhelming!

It's nice to hear a good result in foster care. We are hoping that we would be able to have some type of open adoption when we get to adopt through foster care. I know it's not always possible or the best thing, but we are hoping anyway for the best when the time comes for us. I hope for the child that it all continues in a positive manner and wish the best of outcomes.

We also adopted from foeter cae and ave a good open adoption. We have has two post adoption visits so far and both went very well. In fact our "one" hour visits have been more like three and four hour visits - and that has been fine.

I need to schedule the next one in a few weeks and I am actually looking forward to it.

So glad to hear about a happy visit for Pixie! Glad things are going so well for your family with Tucker as well.

We have a lunch date with our daughter's bio mom today. I didn't think we'd ever see or meet her, but all of the sudden the opportunity presented itself. I'm nervous but hopeful. I just pray she shows up.
