adoption orders

HI Sarah,

Does your adoption order not contain names?

If you would like to tell me what info you have, I would be happy to help. I am in Quebec and recently found my best friend's mom (at her request, of course)- she was born in Quebec, adopted in Ontario. It took me just over a month to find her bmom.

Good luck!

Kelly

If you are in the Ontario area, then The Adoption Disclosure Register can assist you in finding your Birthparents. Their number is 416-327-4730.

Usually Adoption Orders do not contain the Birthparents names because of the laws protecting them and the Adopted child (until they are 18) where they then can both register to find each other. The names on the order are the adoptive applicants names, name of child prior to adoption and the name of the child that the adoptive parents have chosen to name the child.

I currently work at an adoption agency and you really can't get that much information about your birth family from adoption orders unless you petition the courts to open your file and then birthparents names will be contained somewhere in the file. This is usually a very difficult process to do, as the files are sealed.

Good luck.

hi Sara,

First of all, good luck in your search. I found my birth mother 3 weeks ago with information i had gathered from a sneak peek at my adoption order many many years ago! I thought i would start a passive search and register that information on various websites. i was also adopted out of Ontario and i started with the website canadianadopteesregistry.org

This registry will only conect you with your birth mother if she (or someone else from your birth family) has registered as looking for you. I was lucky, she had registered on the site only a few months before and we were contacted by the site that very night!! This method was perfect for my search, as I only wanted to find her if she wanted to find me. another source you may find useful is Parentfinders. they are a little more aggressive but also charge a fee.

I hope this helps, and i wish you all the best in your search

ATTENTION Birth Relatives
Have you applied to the ADR (Provincial)
REUNION REGISTRY?

The government operates a reunion registry, which you should also be registered on. The form is available on our web site, or by writting to the ADR of Ontario

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is some info I was given as well
To petition the probate court you would need to start with a lawyer (who would then know the rest of the procedure). We do not recommend this as this can be very expensive and in the past we have not seem anyone have very positive results (even when there seems to be a "need" to open the records). Ontario Parliment has been trying to write a Bill (that will pass) to have Ontario records open. We expect this to be another year or two down the road. If this happens you would potentially then have access to you siblings Adopted name and adopted address.
Hope this will help in your search
Good luck in your search
Lady Di,
I would think that because it is a business, especially to do with the Ministry that they would have had Canada Post forward all their mail to the new address, so don't worry. If by chance that they do not forward to the new address, your package will be sent back to you saying not at this address.
But if you have doubts of it getting there, maybe you could call and confirm that they received it.
Re: adpotion disclosure register
Thanks Smiley,
They did receive it as I got a reply from them telling me to look in
Ohio. But that's the only thing I received. Thanks for the reply and good luck in your search as well...
LadyDi...
