Adoption into Canada
I am a Canadian citizen, and my husband is an American. We have been looking into adopting an older child from Bulgaria, as well as an older (3-10) AA boy, or boys, from New York state or Michigan. We are currently living in Ontario, Canada, and have no idea how to begin this process. I have tried to contact agencies in Canada that deal with American adoptions, but most only do private, infant adoptions (which I am definately not interested in). Does anyone know who I can contact in Ontario, New York or Michigan to start this process? Also, does anyone know what the cost would be to adopt from foster care, or the process? Thanks.

Who to contact
There is a good agency in Ontario. You should contact Michael Blugerman at mjblug@total.net I don't have his tele number handy at the moment.
Best wishes

Same Situation Here
Hi! We are in the same boat - my dh is american born and raised(Cdn now too) I am Canadian, we live in BC. We adopted sibs from St Louis, Missouri almost 4 years ago. Our boys were then ages 3 and 4, aa, and are now doing VERY well and it was a great experience. We found out that DFS in St Louis County would place to Canada from another family in BC that had adopted sibs - we applied, kept in contact (aka Bugged them!) and 12 months later were home with our boys! We received adoption assistance (which we werent informed about until AFTER we had agreed to parent the boys) including travel expenses, legal fees and a monthly stipend of $250 per child per month until they are 18. Also all counselling fees, tutoring etc is also covered. I dont know what the foster system in Ontario is like but that is WAY more assistance than BC offerred. The social workers in Missouri were great - receptive and available. WE received their entire foster care file, have birth parent contact and a great relationship with the boys former foster parents. email me if you would like more info, Jennifer N.
