Hoping to adopt an older boy

I've been hearing a lot of stories about how long the wait is for a child to be placed. I'm hoping to adopt an AA boy ages 6-8. I'm AA also. From wait I see in the photolistings, there is an abundance of AA boys. Is the wait shorter for them? I'm in the state of Georgia and will be starting my IMPACT classes on Sept. 9. Also has anyone adopted a child from the My Turn Now Photolisting?

I just had a boy placed with me after 8 months of visiting. He is an 8 yr old AA boy who was in our state's photolistings briefly. It took me 3 yrs from starting classes to now, but I think my worker was being extra careful about who was placed with me. I am single, was looking for straight adoption without fostering first, and have never been a parent, so I think there was a fear of me getting in over my head. I did inquire about any kid that showed up on the state's website and fell within my age range, but as I was told over and over, there is almost always a reason for them being on that list and being "hard to place". they may need a very specific family situation, need an extraordinary amount of care, may have had previous disruptions (i would like to think in that case, their CWs would be picky about where they ended up), etc. Definitely try though, because you might be what they need.

I am adopting a little boy from GA now. I found him on MyTurn Now photolisting. I inquired about him in March, and chosen to be his parents in June, met him in July. And now are waiting for ICPC to go through, so we can bring him home.

Hoping to adopt in GA

I was also told the kids on the photolistings are "problem" children. So then where do you look for a child? Plus, DFACS didnot seem interested at all in helping me inquire about a child out of state....rather help one of her own she said...

We are in GA and have chosen to go through a private agency to adopt through fostercare. They were prepared and suggested going out of state if we did not identify a group quickly. PM me if you want some agencies in Metro Atlanta. Their fees are covered by the state you adopt from and it has cost us less than if we had gone directly through the state b/c they have reimbursed us for things DFCS refused to cover.
