Single Parent Adoption and the MJ case

Hi guys,

THis is my first post. I am a single man planning on starting the process this year or early next year (unless, of course, I have another financial setback...I lost a job shortly before starting the process a few years ago, had to cancel plans...I was dating then.)

I'm an avid watcher of the Nancy Grace program and tonight she was discussing the MJ case. It got me to wondering...

Is this case going to make it harder for single guys to adopt? I mean, I love kids. I like being around them. I enjoy being for there for them. If I had the money for schooling, I would have become a teacher.

This case makes it seem strange that a single guy could innocently enjoy children's company. The way the commentators sneer at the idea that a man would want to surround himself with kids scares me. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it affects me how it affects me.

BTW, I am a mentor to two kids. I spend time with them, take them to ball games, help with schoolwork, etc. I have an urge to be a full-time parent that this isn't filling.

Thanks for listening to my fears. BTW I put this in the "Older Child" adoption forum because I hear that Single Dads aren't usually allowed to adopt infants or toddlers. My info could be wrong. (not that I want an infant, I really want a pre-k age child)

my 2 cents

I think the whole Rosie O'Donald thing kind of hurt single female adoption and a lot of people will think you must be homosexual if you want to adopt as a single parent...

Some places and state really look down on gay adoption....and will make it harder if you live in a conservitive area of the country .....but if you are weathly, well then you really will not have a problem if you have $30-40 thousand to spend on an adoption, even is you are gay

Michael Jackson's case probably will not really have a negative impact on single male adoptions.....if you are looking toward adopting a foster child, the little ones usually go to married couples....so if you are will to adopt an older child your chance will increase...Remember Woody Allen was permitted to adopt in California even though he has founded cases of child sex abuse in NY.....
