Okies, Let's Meet Here!

Since there aren't that many from Oklahoma around maybe we could just meet on the Oklahoma Local Forum.

Violet, I eat at the same Outback Steakhouse on Meridian.

I live in NW OKC and my postal address says Edmond but I'm in Deer Creek schools. It's confusing so I just tell people I live in Edmond. I work for Oklahoma City so I am always downtown.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the confusion. I actually live in Ames (30 minutes southwest of Enid) but everyone's like - Iowa? - so it's just as easy to say Enid, which is where we work and spend the majority of our time and money anyway. Speaking of work, I just spent the last 2 days working like I have been there 5 days, and it will not get any easier the next 3 days. We did get back all our authentication forms today though All we lack now for our dossier is our I-171H and a few photos.

We're in OKC

I posted on the okc forum. I know there has to be more oklahoma people out there but apparently they aren't talking on adoption.com. Our agency has their own forum on yahoo groups, but no one is from oklahoma city. My wife and I are adopting from guatemala. It starts to feel lonely at times. I hope we can get something rolling for Oklahoma that pulls us together. It's like everyone is spread all out with their individual agency support groups and stuff. Our agency is in Indiana so we are not connected with anyone of them. Maybe I'm just whining. It would be fun though.

Hi Togocovey!

How far along in the process are you?
Adopting is so exciting, and the fact that we are going foreign just adds to it because we know there's light at the end of the tunnel.
I would post more, but I just got off work and drove 40 minutes through the snow. I'm beat.
I'll post on the adoption connection thread tomorrow.

I'm all for centralizing into the state boards since we seem to be such a small group, hopefully we will grow soon!

A little about me DH and I have been married for 9 years. He will turn 34 on Valentine's Day and I just turned 28. We tried to conceive fron day one and had no luck, we did go through several rounds of fertility drugs, though no extensive treatments because we always considered adoption a big possibility for our family.

In June of 2005 I had to have a hysterectomy due to PCOS and endo. The pain just became to much to handle and DH hated seeing me in so much pain and on massive amounts of pain meds. It took lots of work to get the insurance company and hospital to agree to the hysterectomy but I'm so glad we fought for it. I was doing so well the hospital discharged me the very next day, all in all I was only in the hospital for about 30 hours. I have been pain free ever since and finally able to live a full life, it's wonderful! Don't get me wrong I wanted to be able to have bio children and during all our years of trying to conceive spent most Holidays in tears b/c we didn't have children, but even had we been able to have children the surgery would have been necessary for me to enjoy them.

We started actively persuing adoption almost a year ago, and are hoping to be matched with children this year. We are going thru DHS and are hoping to adopt an older sibling group (well what society considers older) ages 5-10.

Guess that's it for now. Hope everyone survived the ice storms safely!

We are also in Oklahoma, in Tulsa. H was adopted through Catholic Charities in Tulsa and is now 18 months old.

If any of you, especially you Tulsa and surrounding folks, are interested in working on Walk for Adoption in the fall in Tulsa, pm me. My dh and I are chairing the event, which is to raise adoption awareness. It will be the first Sunday in November, but we're starting committee meetings now.

My dh and I live in far Northeastern Oklahoma, almost to Missouri. I grew up in NW Oklahoma City and lived there for 27 years.

We tried to conceive for over 3 years and had done some fertility treatments with no luck. After my third surgery for endo, we decided on adoption, and I am so glad we did!

We adopted our ds 2 years ago from Krasnoyarsk, Russia. He is 3 years old now and is the light of our lives.

We are actually contemplating adopting again, but are more interested in doing it domestically. If anyone has done an interstate adoption (you live in Oklahoma, but the baby is from somewhere else), I would love to hear your experience, both good and bad. We have some possibilities right now, but I do not want to go into it at this time.

I hope to meet more people from Oklahoma here!

Shawna

Just checking back in. The Oklahoma forums are pretty slow! It's cool to see the different kinds of adoptions everyone is doing.

LOL the OK forums are rather slow. So slow that I keep forgetting to check these boards.

Our update is that we have been respiting for a 4 yr old who will becoming free for adoption in about a month (his father has less than 4 weeks left to appeal the TPR). We are respiting with the hopes (and understanding from his foster mother and his cw) that we will be the ones chosen to adopt him since we already have a bond with him. We respite for him every weekend and he has quickly become the light of our life! I hope everything works out because my heart will be broken if it doesn't.

It's great to see more people hit these forums, can't wait to get to know everyone more.

Can I post here? We don't live in Oklahoma, but are doing a relative adoption from northeastern Oklahoma where my partner's family lives. Another relative has our little one's younger siblings in another part of Oklahoma and obviously we stay in close touch. I am very interested in this walk you're planning in Tulsa. That sounds like something that our family (a large one) could really get into. We are still smack in the middle of working towards the adoption, the mother is not a normal person by any stretch and causes trouble on a daily basis. Anyway, I wouldn't mind making the trip up there that weekend and walking.

Amy: It will be Sunday, Nov. 4th at Bishop Kelley HS in Tulsa. From a walking standpoint, it's not the exercise you might think (my DH calls it Mill Around for Adoption) but it's got fun activities for the kids and the funds raised go for birthmother expenses. For any of you that are interested, the next planning meeting is June 20th at noon at CC in Tulsa.

We would really love to have some more folks working on it!

Ellipses its a ghost town here

i just found this thread while searching around,,,

im 29 and my DH is 27, we live in kay county, Ponca City, this comming june 3 we will be married 2 years. we have a 11 yeah old daughter and a 7 year old son. we received custody of my 13 year old sister last oct.
we would like to have another child but 7 years ago this april 9th my dr. talked me into getting my tubes tied... and we have since found that it wasnt done the way i agreed to so now it wouldnt be worth it to try to have it reversed.
we decided we would like to adopt, and did some research and now have decided we would like to foster, and then possibly consider adoption if the chance arrives but even after that we would like to foster still...

my 13 year old sister goes to school with girls who live in our local childrens home and its just so sad how over crowded they are

Hi all Im moving to Oklahoma in the next 2 weeks. I should actually be packing some right now but Im being lazy.

I am looking into adopting twins or siblings. I want so badly to give my son a sibling or siblings, I am a single mom and dont want to be in a relationship. At least not right now. My last one ended badly. I wound up pregnant with my son and 6 months later my ex commited suicide. So Im not into starting anything right now.

Cant wait to get to know everyone!

I am from as far North in Oklahoma as you can get without living in Kansas. We adopted our oldest adopted daughter 13 years ago while we were living in Enid and then we adopted our youngest daughter about 10 years ago while we were foster parents living here in Alva. My husband and I have two bio children. My oldest daughter will be 27 this month and our son is 25 and just got married in December. My oldest has 2 children my grandchildren who I think are just the greatest and she and her husband live in Kansas. Not too far away but for Nanna it seems like thousands of miles. I hope to get to know all of you (Sooners? or Cowboys? better) I'm glad to be here and from Oklahoma!!
