The CI's fond my b/daughter

If any of you have had your adoption done through Oklahoma, whether it be an adoptee(18yrs.old)or a b/parent,you can go through the Reunion Registry in Oklahoma City. The CI program located my b/daughter,and I recieved the wonderfull news today, she would like contact as well.It would not have taken place if it wasn't for the people there.I will pray for all to locate whom you are in search of.God Bless!

The CI program found my b/daughter

In reference to your question, yes I have the information. You will need to contact by phone or letter to intiate the process. The address is State of Oklahoma,Department of Human Services- P.O.Box 25352,Oklahoma City,Ok.73125.There you can get the form that you need to start you out,by registering.(Mutual Consent Voluntary Registry)You may request a search after you have been registerd for 6 months. The person in which could give you all the information needed is Martha Hopcus-the no. is 1-405-521-3832 or 1-405-521-2475.She is a wonderful lady.I could not been more pleased with the help she gave me.Good Luck.and dont give up it is worth the wait.I had to wait 18 yrs.until my b/daughter turned 18 and then just wished for the best,(with the help of the people there in Okla.,City)I wish you the very best in your search.

What are CI's?

I am interested in the Reunion Registry in Oklahoma City. Where would I get in contact. And what is the CI you mentioned in your post?

Martha Hopcus can give you all the information about the CI Program. After you have been on the Reunion Registry for 6 months, you can request an active search. You don't actually contact the CI. Everything goes through DHS.
Good luck. Mary Payne

Private adoption?

Would you go through DHS for private adoption information too?

Yes, DHS will conduct an CI search for any adoption, agency or private, finalized in Oklahoma.

Have you considered petitioning the court for your adoption records first?

We talked to two attorneys, and a private investigator. They said there were only 3 reasons the judge would open records: medical; if the adoptee was Native American; and I've forgotten the third but we didn't have any of the criteria. The PI said that we had an unusual story and that even though he has helped many adoptees and biological parents make reunion he felt uncomfortable in our case. He felt if he did indeed find the biological parent, he might be sued for invasion of privacy. So there we are. Fortunately, my daughter has this as a lifetime goal not an immediate goal.

Well, the last people you'd want to talk to in this matter are attorneys as they're the ones who got everything sealed up in the first place. I don't quite understand what the P.I. meant by fearing being "sued for invasion of privacy".... Ha, he's a P.I. for cryin' out loud! Expecially since he's obviously already conducted searches for adoptees. Just petition the court...

True you need a valid reason for a judge to grant an adoption file. I had a very brief letter from my doctor stating background biological medical information was important for future diagnosis. Just call the county courthouse where the adoption was finalized and ask the bailiff of the family court what the procedures are for opening an adoption file. Some have Pro Se forms (without an attorney) that you fill out, have nortarized, and sent in to the judge. You won't even have to be present. Some just require a letter addressed to the judge.

Good luck. If you have any questions, let me know.

Chris
