Hi everyone.
We're adoptive parents adopting an infant to be born in OH. I understood what someone said earlier about time frames for relinquishment if you work with an agency etc. We're in an agency state too and 72 hours is also the earliest a parent can sign. No concerns on our part there. Would you mind sharing what the process is in Ohio for a directed/designated placement? Say for example expectant mom is going to deliver in Cleveland and we're coming from out of state to be there with her for the delivery. We're approved with our agency here who will handle the finalization & post placement visits & paperwork. What does Ohio require that we do? Do we need to work through an agency for a directed placement, or do we need simply to fill out paperwork for the ICPC with an agency, or do both apply? I've looked at sites of agencies where the fees would be around $5,000 to help us complete this adoption, does this sound about right? Fees to our agency here have already been paid. Who handles the ICPC - our agency or someone in Ohio? Sorry for all the questions, and I really appreciate your help. Thanks for your help! Loie |

We are working with a birthmother who is delivering in Cleveland too! I found out Ohio is an agency only state and you'll need to work with an agency in Ohio. My birthmother has already chosen an agency so we'll be working and paying fees directly to them. Hope this helps!

Whoops, I should have said that we're HOPEFULLY adopting from Ohio. We'll know more next week. Nothing has been decided. Sorry, I thought I typed that but must have missed it - maybe it's a sign?
![]() I found out the same thing you already know. You can work with an attorney, but relinquishment can take longer and I think I feel more comfortable working with an agency that already has counseling resources right there. Congratulations on your baby. When is the happy event? Loie |
