How long is an OH homestudy good for?

Hi!
We are having a slight problem with our sw in CA where are new baby will be born in the next 2-4 weeks and our sw here in OH who did our homestudy. Our sw did our original homestudy was done in August of 2003 by our local social worker. When we mathced up with a birthmom in July of this year, we spoke with our sw here and she said that our homestudy was good for 2 years in the state of OH. The agency in CA said great and was sent a copy of our home study, redone as an agency homestudy as that is what is required in CA. JUst last week the agency worker in CA called me to say that in speaking with ICPC in COlumbus, that they said our homestudy is outdated and our social worker in CA is worried about whether we will be cleared through the state of OH to bring this baby home. Well, besides being frantic, I told her to coontact our social worker directly here in OH, which she did. She told me during our last call that our sw here stated that she must have spoken to someone in Columbus who was not aware of the new laws/rules? reagarding the length of homestudies. Amy in CA said that she was going to contact ICPC again here in OH but I just want to know for my own peace of mind, does anyone know for certain if our homestudy is still valid here in OH? Will we be able to bring our newborn home once we get out there to CA? This is leading to some sleepless nights here, I can tell you as we are under the gun as far as time goes. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Bridgette

Hello,
I can tell you that we had our Home Study done by an Adoption Agency in Columbus, OH in Mar 2002 and it was good till Mar 2004. Sometimes the state you are adopting from requires a update if they are a yr or less as in TX case which is every 6MON. I would think that with CA you should be fine and I know that OH would clear you to enter. You can call the state office in Columbus your self and ask though.

Betty,
THanks so much for your quick response. THis is what our local social worker has stated but someone in Columbus who was called by the social agency worker from CA gave different information. IT must be as our social worker said, that whomever she spoke to there was not up on the current state regulations. I appreciate your thoughts on this. I will sleep better knowing this. Thanks again! Hi!

I've wondered the same thing. So, after I read your post, I e-mail the official adopt ohio web page at: www.state.oh.us/odjfs/oapl

The response today was that a home study is good for two years and can be updated twice.

Any questions call 614-443-3529

Hope this helps!

Congratulations on your soon to arrive baby!!!
