Family and Children's Service Society in Akron

I've been trying to figure out what happened to the adoption agency that handled my adoption in 1966. I couldn't find any current listing for them and emailed The United Way of Summit County which is located at their former address. I got a prompt response from someone there who said they have people contacting them regularly trying to find the agency. She suggested I contact both Summit County Children's Services and the Greenleaf Family Center. Well, within days I had a response from SCCS. Here it is:

Dear Ms. McNeill: I am in receipt of your recent email. The former Family and Children's Service Society became Family Services and most recently is called GreenLeaf Family Center. You may contact Ms. Ilene Schmitt 330-376-9494 ext. 243 (or toll-free-800-277-9494) with questions or inquiries regarding post-adoptive services. The mailing address is:
GreenLeaf Family Center
212 E. Exchange St.
Akron, OH 44304

You may reach me at 330-379-2087 if you have any questions or need further assistance.

Sushila Tripathy-Moore
Ombudsman

I was quite touched that this woman would send me such thorough information and help me along on my search journey. I hope I encounter more helpful people like her along the way.

As for GreenLeaf, I sent them an email at the same time as SCCS and am waiting to hear back from them. I'm going to call Ilene Schmitt tomorrow and get this ball rolling.

Ohio Adoption Registry Contact Info.

To find out about the Ohio Adoption Registry call the Office of Vital Statistics at 614-466-2531. I navigated through the menu options and ended up leaving a voicemail for Larry Osborne who is the Adoption and Paternity Processing Supervisor. He also has a direct line at 614-644-2723. (I found this information with a Google search after my initial voicemail.)

Vital Statistics office hours are M-F 7:45 am - 4:30 pm.

Does anyone know what my next step should be?
