Adoption Decree, where to get it????

My parents "Don't remember the name of the attorney". And "Burned all the adoption papers".
The court says "We are not permitted to send you anything but your OBC" (this after I proved to them that my birth mother was dead.
Is there any place else to get a copy of this paper work???

Have you tried the vital statistics office in your state? The only other place would be the court, but if they're saying they won't give it to you... Could you file for a hearing to force the courts to give it to you, or put in a request from the judge to order it given to you? I hate that adoptees don't have access to THEIR information!

I'm not sure that vital stats would have that.........I'll have to look into that.
Oh believe me I have plenty of reasons to sit before a judge right now, but no composure!!
Example: They said they had "No information in my file about my birth father" but on the petition order it says "The court nor it's agency find that either birth parent is deceased." How can they say that if they don't know who the birth father is AND wrong answer!! My first mom has been deceased sonce 1973 AND died right by the court house in an auto accident that made the paper and the news.
AND when they sent me my placement records there WAS information about my birth father on it!!!!!! Just not a name.

Very frusterating day today!
Thanks so much for responding, not feeling so alone now!

New Question

Ok, I am pretty sure that I have my birth fathers name, his full name.
My question is this. When I look at the form from Vital Stats to get a certified copy of my OBC it also asks for my full name. Will they send me one if all I put is my last name as that is all I ahd?? My first mom did not name me so I was just "Girl Moore". So would I put that or just the last name??
Thanks in advance!

Dear Wendy,

I got my copy of my adoption decree through the probate court in the county of which the adoption took place. I called them and told them I was the adoptee and I had my aparents name and I knew the date the adoption was finalized. You will need this becasue this is when the adoption is actually decreed. I had no information whatsoever on my biological family. WIth that information they gave me my adoption decree. The clerk was new and didn't know it was a closed adoption so all of my information was right there in front of me. My mother's full name. In my situation, the birth father was not listed. They were married and the marriage was annulled. I then became the "property" of my bmom's (so to speak) and it was her decession alone what to do with me. He wanted to be sure during the annulment he was not on the birth certificate. I know you have your bmom's info and are looking for your bdad, so hopefully it is on your adoption decree. Good luck Wendy, hope it helps.

Carolyn
