confused?

I don't understand where the probate court can say my adoption was after the cut off date of Jan 1964 when I have the family doctor's notes when he saw me in July 1963 so I was placed in the home by than? I believe my mom said 6 weeks old...so how can they say my records are sealed? I am confused?
I send requests for info and all I get is my check returned and statements saying the records are sealed...urgh!!

Question Jan 1,1964?

I may have your answer.

Just because you were placed in the home by July 1963 doesn't mean you were adopted by Jan 1, 1964.
There is a waiting period for each adoption. What you need to do is ask your A-parents when the adoption was finalized.
If you know the agency that handled your adoption let me know and I will send you a form letter to send to them for your non-id-info. That is vital to your search too.
Blessings

Wink They?

Good!!

I am glad you talked yourself into asking when the adoption was final. Your A-parents should have the final papers if they didn't destroy them.
If not what about the court that handled your adoption?
Who are THEY that you spoke of? If you tried to find out anything from the wrong THEY that is why you cannot get info.
If you don't know when the adoption was final, and if you don't know who handled the adoption? Who is THEY? :-)
Blessings

they are....

sorry..."they" are the probate court where I petitioned to have my record opened - 1st time was for medical reasons...I was pregnant and the second time I thought my case was now an open record since I was in the home july 1963 but I guess now I understand that the adoption may have gone through a "waiting" period before being finalized and therefore Jan 6th may have been the day the adoption was finalized and therefore the case is sealed shut and they - probate court won't let me have any info. I went on a link from this site and foun OHIO Adoptive Searches who wants to charge me up to $X for information related to my case...what do you think?

DO NOT pay for someone to do your search. You still have a ton of options left.
Did you request your non identifying information from the courts? You will need that. And you will get at least that if you petion the court for it.
Please, you still have a lot that you can do in your own search, and many who will assist you like Mackie, do not pay!

thank you!

Thank you for encouraging me not to pay and do some searching on my own first - I was kind of leaning that way....this guy said there was only ONE birth that took place on the lockbourne air base at the same time of my birth so maybe its easier than I thought....

here is the BEST news...my mom (who would have guessed) sent me the info on the adoption agency...and concurred it took 6 months for the final court to approve the adoption...she will look for more info when she gets home from her trip but who would have guessed...no fuss ...no anger...no hurt or at least she is not saying anything....I am floored! Thank you for all the encouragement....sometimes we just have to do what we have to do....I appreciate the spirit and heart with which you both have helped and help SO many more...your crowns in heaven will be very weighty!!!
God Bless!

Talking 6 months waiting time for adoption sounds right

Gee!
You have had a time. PLEASE DO NOT think about paying someone to do a search for you until you have done your homework. Its really Risky.
As Nugget said, you can always find a Search Angel to assist you and if they fail you still have not been hurt fiancially.
The reason for most searches not being completed is due to lack of information.
So would you like me to send you a form letter for you to send to the agency? Its imperative you have good non-id-info and if you leave it to the agency they will send what they want.
DO NOT post any personal info on the boards......If you want to share that info send me a PM?
Blessings
Mackie

Hello...just thought I would post an update...afraid this work is very slow...although I suppose some of it is me too...I think I am scared partly...like the reason I can't find info is because its something really terrible. YOu know like there are people in positions who could help like probate court ...all the judge has to say is yes...and they don't because its so horrible they think its better you don't need to know...all these years you just start to wonder how come I can't seem to get the simple info of where I came from....sorry ranting.....
update: I tried to track down the agency who processed my adoption - Bureau of Family and child services...went to library pulled articles of agency but got no info...no names no links...so dead end...the agency just vanished into thin air with no trace? Non profits didn't have much regulation in the 60's so now where...hospital info...going there monday...scared..I did run across a doctor who worked at the hospital 2 months after I was born and had adopted many children so he was very helpful and hooked me up with what he believes was the doctor who delivered me...problem is his name doesn't match my birth certificate...do they alter those things???
anyway I called ..the doctor is retired and living in colorado but who knows....no answer ...several times...may be dead end.
Sadly I am headed to china for a year in two weeks so I just don't have much time....wanting just to give up...anyone relate??
God Bless
