where do I start?! Columbus oh
I have tried to start searches for my birthmom since I was about 16, but I was told by catholic social services that there was a law stating that I had to wait until I was 21. So I recently turned 21 and called catholic social services to find out what I could do at 21 that I couldnt at 18. The rude man at CSS told me there was no such law and he couldnt do anything. I've been told so many contradicting things. I just dont know what to do anymore. Can anyone tell me the adoption laws in oh in 1982?? Im so confused and I would like to find my birthmom.....Thanks

i'am from ohio.
i'am an adoptee from ohio.css won't give you the information you need.find a volentere search angle to search the ohio birth index.you can also request non-identifying information from them.i was told the same thing.when i turned 21 i did the same thing, what it is you have to go to court and ask the judge to release the information(you'r sealed file)but i was told they very rarely give that information.good luck on you'r search.i'am also seeking my family to.

I believe the years between 1964 and 1996, the records are sealed for adoptees, and cannot be opened without petitioning the probate court. However, the agengy that placed you for adoption is obligated to provide non-identifying information about your birth parents.
As for search angles, I am near Columbus Ohio as well, and would be interested in talking to a search angle. I have worked with a few in the past without success in finding out the surnames of my birth parents. At least with DNA testing, I was able to find some information about my ancestry, but that information is also incomplete. |

Hi!
Since I have no idea who all you have been talking with I cannot tell you anything. If you want to email me [I do not want you to post personal information on the net, its too scary] Whoever talked with you at CSS needs a lesson and they may be about to get one. ITS THE LAW that any adoptee who is 18 or more can request his/her non-id-info. in the state of OH. Email me if you would like Blessings Mackie Quote:
