Ohio Childrens Society
I was adopted through the Ohio Childrens Society on December 8th 1968. I have been looking for information as well and this is what I have found. THe Childrens Society had closed down, and Frances Cody has passed away. I found out that since it was a private adoption agency, no records had to be turned over to the state. She could have done anything with the records. She could have willed them to a family member, destroyed them ect. Unfortunatly i have run in to a wall in my search because of this. If you are able to get any information, I would love to be able to share with you. You can email me at tevans@ameritech.net

I was adopted through the Ohio Children's Society. When I began my search (1994) I contacted the place that she lived and was told that she had just passed away. I was then directed and spoke with her daughter who told me that she (daughter) burned the records because she did not want to be responsible for them. Unfortunately if what the daughter told me is true, there are no records left behind by Frances Cady. Good luck with your search.

It has been a very long time since I did any in depth searching. Mackie is a better person to help you. She is extremely helpful. Do you have a specific question perhaps I could answer it. Did you just begin your search? When is your birthday? What kind of adoption records do you have? Were you provided with non-identifying adoptive info thru the agency? My a-mom saved all the court records which is where I was able to find my bmom's maiden name. The rest was all leg work, guess work and a lot of guidance from my Father above. I would love to hear from you again. I won't post my email address here, but I think you can still get to it from this site somehow. Good luck. Lori

More details
Hi, my name is Lesley and I was born on April 17, 1969 at Riverside Methodist Hospital to a young unwed mother. She tried to give me up at birth, but just couldn't do it. However, 15 months later she selflessly put me up for adoption through Ohio Children's Society because she wanted a better life for me. My parents were told the agency had to send her for counseling because she was having a hard time after she had given me up. I would really like to end her suffering and let her know it was a good choice. Unfortunately, I have learned that the records at the agency were destroyed. Her last name was Estep. I would be so grateful if you could help me or at least point me in the right direction. Thank you for your time. I really can't seem to e-mail people from this site. Yes, I am just beginning the search. Thank you for your quick reply.

Hello Everyone I just want to say Don't give up!
I cant tell you any thing new about O.C.S. Yes it looks like the records where destroyed. I found my adoption info on a Fill in the blank story booklet that F. Cady gave to my a/parents. It told A story for my a/parents to read to me as I was growing up so that I would understand that I was adopted. In this booklet was a discription of my birth mother and my allegid B/father. ALL of this info turned out to be true! But that doesn't guarantee that yours is correct. I was also refered to as baby Showman. This turned out to be my b/moms maiden name. It also said that my b/father was in the Air force and that my b/mom formerly worker for an Insurance Co. With the help and guidance of a True Angle named Mackie. I went to the public library in the county I thought my b/mom worked and looked in the City Directory for any one with the last name Showman who worked for an Insurance Co the years around the year I was born. A long story short I found two names (sisters) and with Mackies help traced them down I left a message on Ancestry.com asking if anyone knew of a Sandra or Barbara Showman that worked for motorist mutual ins. in or around 1967. Because I thought they might belong on my family tree.A cousin of theirs replied to the message about 6 months after I posted it. She put me in touch with my B/mom Sandi The week before mothers day. I have met her and My brother and sister and the rest of the family. they are going to meet my a/parents in march. We have gotten along wonderfully. she told me what my b/fathers name was and I have just recently found a guy that he was in the AirForce with. He sent me about 5 pictures of my b/father so now I know what he looked like at least. If you would like to E/mail me at pllovesbl@msn.com Put ohio childrens society in the Title or Header box and I will try to help you any way that I can. Brian |
