White female born 8/11/67 Charlotte NC
Hi,
I am a newbie here. I would like to start searching for my birth parents. I always said I would wait until my adoptive parents passed before I started searching - out of respect and the desire to never hurt them. My AM died when I was 9, but my AF died this past April. So the time seems right. I have my adoption decree - showing I was placed with my Adoptive parents in October 1967 and the adoption was finalized on March 18, 1968. My birth certificate shows my birth date as August 11, 1967. The agency I was placed by was Family and Children's Services inc. in Charlotte NC. I have no other information. Can someone direct me how to start this process??? Thanks! Kristin ![]() |

Welcome,
First, check the laws in North Carolina to see what you need to do to get your non-id info and whether or not they have a contact registry. Also check the status of the law on opening records. Second, register your search here on the registry, (see purple tab reunite above). I just checked and there is another adoptee born same day. Also google ISSR and fill out the form to register there. Another good site to register on is G's adoption registry. Third, understand that details were changed so keep your mind open to differences like birth day or birth month etc. You can always confirm via dna. Finally, consider asking one of the search angels on this site to help. Kind regards, Dickons |

Kristin,
North Carolina now has a confidential intermediary program where the agency of adoption may do the search for you, for a fee. Mecklenburg I believe is still doing this for free. If not their fee should be $200.00 flat fee. The person you need to call and speak with is DeShawn Spears at Mecklenburg County DSS. Her number is 704 336-5433. However tell DeShawn you want your non-id info. That you are entitled to. If you have any questions, please email me at nccar@mindspring.com |
