I would like to hear from anyone on this list who is a registered voter and lives in NC. Please write to me and let me know what it would take for you to join a group in trying to gain access original birth certificates. Surely most of you who live in NC would like to have the chance to at least fight for this right. I have a hard time believing everyone on this list would rather 'leave it to others' to do the work for them.
I know everyone has a lot going on in their lives, however if the NC Coalition for Adoption Reform (NCCAR)goes before the legislature in 2007, the group needs 'warm' bodies, to be with them. Anyone on this list who lives within the vicinity of Raleigh, should join us. We need you to go to the capital with us. Do I sound like I am pleading? Yes I am, because I have become very discouraged. There are a core of 8-10 people who devote themselves with tireless devotion to doing this. However just like with the march next spring, we cannot do it with 8-10 people, and actually believe the legislature will listen to us. We need to have at least 50 or more people.I keep seeing on this forum "So frustrated" "Where do I start" and and I want what is mine and many other comments. If you are that frustrated then why not join the cause which might just be able to get you what you want? I would really like to hear everyone's excuse on why they cannot help with this, so please write me at nccar@mindpring.com and let me know. If you want to know more about what we are doing go to our website and check it out: http://adoptionreform-nc.org. Hearing from you may be the determining factor on wether this state has a reform group anymore or not. I have been at it now for 6 years, and our group has come up with good legislation. We have the backing of a lot of the adoption agencies. But that is not what will change the tide in Raleigh. We need adoptive parents, adoptees and birthparents to show up in force in 2007, or the adoptive families who have always put a stop to any legislation before, will win once more. I look forward to hearing from you. Roberta |

I am a registered NC voter and get this...filed a petition to get my original birth certificate and the motion was granted. That was almost 2 years ago and I still don't have my birth certificate, just a lot of excuses. Red tape = Bull*#@! I'm with ya all the way and plan to join you when you march in Raleigh. And you know what you're right....everybody wants something but hardly anyone wants to do what it takes to get it. And from my experience, once people reunite, the fire is out, gone, they no longer give a hoot about open records or their lack of rights.

I live in California at this time but was born and adopted in north carolina. I would fly home to participate in and help out in whatever way I can. Let me know the exact details and what you would need me to do.

Kristy,
When and where in NC where you born? Do you know what adoption agency handled your adoption? Patricia |

Kristy,
You are an inspiration. I will let you know. Right now we are planning a 'Visit with your legislator day' when they come in during the next session. It may be all you have to do is call and write to them. I will keep you in mind though be sure of that. One of the best ways I could suggest for you to help right now is to become a registered paying member of NCCAR. Please see our website at http://adoptionreform-nc.org. Thank you again for writing and wanting to come all the way back here to help. I just wish those who were here in NC were as willing to help us. Roberta |

I am more than willing to do what I can. I don't know how much I can do, but I know that I agree completely with the cause. I just started my search, and already I am frustrated with the fact that sealing records does nothing but make me feel like I'm doing something wrong by trying to discover information about my past. Also, when is the march in Raleigh? I'm in Chapel Hill and would LOVE to come to that ..
