Need help with hospital code from birth index

I downloaded the birth index for 1971 and found a match. However, the hospital code doesn't seem to match any of the hospitals for that county. The code is 1P03295. I know the 3295 means Durham County, and the 1 means that it was a hospital, but the P is what is causing the questions. The three hospitals listed for that county have different letters, but none of them is a P. Any idea what hospital this is? Thanks for your help!

P ????

Maybe the P stands for Presbyterian.....I've got the birth indexes downloaded, but you have gotten further than me! I understand that the first 6 columns represent the county, is that right?

The first 6 columns seem to represent the hospital and county codes. Thanks for the brainstorm on the P code! That's an idea I hadn't thought of I called the organization that put the stats together, and THEY didn't even know what it stood for. As far as we have figured out, it is a hospital that no longer exists. Figures...lol. They forwarded my request to Vital Statistics in Raleigh, and I haven't heard anything from them. In the meantime, thought, I hired a p.i. and I got a call last night that they found my birthmom....in 1 day! I'm so excited! Good luck with your search! I'd be happy to help if you need assistance trudging through the indexes. Just pm me and let me know if I can be of assistance. Have a great day!

Congratulations!

Wow! In one day! So do you live in NC? And how much does a PI charge? I'm in New Mexico, but I was born in NC. So I'm kind of far away to dig around the courthouses and such....seems to me a PI would be my best route as well. So if you don't mind passing along the info to me....I'd appreciate it. Are you going to contact her? Let us know how it goes....A. Bethke
