General Searching Information for Adoptees born in Canada and taken to the USA.

If anyone was born in Canada and adopted by American adoptive parents and taken to the United States, contact the US Dept. of Immigration and obtain a copy of your Entry Visa. This form should show your full birth name. This is required for all persons taking up permanent residence in the U.S.

Non-Identifying Information
The wait is approximately 22-24 months from the date of inquiry. There is no fee.

Passive Registry
Passive Register for Birth Relatives. A passive match is given priority and every effort is made to work on them immediately. There is no fee for this.

Active Search
Active search done on behalf of Adult Adoptees. Waiting period for an active search is at least five years. There is no fee.

Counselling
Not mandatory, but available to all members of the adoption triad.

....One possible fact that may totally throw off one's search:

During the 1960's most Coastal Labrador communities sometimes utilized Northwest River as the birth facility. This means if your birth Certificate says Northwest River or sometimes even St.John's I'm told, your family might reside in coastal Labrador.
