Legal question..Born in NY- adopted to CT..
I have a legal question as to where records would be kept..
My son was born in NY, but adopted to parents who lived in CT.. who would have those records?? At the time of his adoption, 1990 my caseworker told me that there was no such thing as private adoption in CT, and any and all placements still had to have state involvement...this may be yet another lie I was told, but that's another story I remember being told they had to go through home visits and were/would be checked in on for a period of time.... but would there be records in CT as well as NY??? the agency was in NYC...does that mean the adoption was done through NY courts?? and is there any way to find out???? |

Sounds like the adoption could have been finalized either in the court in the county where your son was born in NY OR it could have been in the county court where the aparents lived. Do you think the agency would, at the very least, tell you what court the adoption was finalized in??? In some states they have to tell you that...don't know about NY. You could also, possibly, call both courts and ask the court registrar.
